I don’t know if you’ve noticed this lately, but one of the most popular articles out there at this very moment is to write a cool article, publish it, then find influencers in your niche and get them to retweet it. As the theory goes, your followers, conversions, and profits will explode like confetti on a wedding day.
Now, looking at some studies, a response rate of 30-40% should be considered successful when contacting influencers, so you’re already looking at a lot of rejection. The first thing you are going to want to do in order to maximize your chances of success is a simple one: to decide on the post that you want to use, and to narrow down your influencers to those best associated with your niche who have a good selection of followers.
One word of caution here: it’s pretty much a given that if you mail someone out of the blue about business, everyone knows that you’re looking for something. You know it, we know it, they know it. Spend a decent amount of time here softening that blow by personalizing each request, and also offering something in return.
Nobody’s going to respond to a lazy mass mail that basically instructs them to RT your post without something in return. Now, let’s say that you hit everyone up, and everyone’s excited to share your post – and it’s a stormer with a CTA and everything ready.
But will it work? If you’re working from results – let’s say just traffic at this point, then studies point to the simple fact that 80% of your tweets just won’t bring you traffic. But 20% is still not bad. What’s more important is what that 20% does.
Does retweeting really work? That depends on you – but I would say 20% is a fine result for a little work, and as an ongoing growth strategy, this is one tool you should keep.
