Google+ - Essential Tools Of The Trade From Google For The Smart Content Marketer

Google+ was launched with great fanfare and was meant to be the new Facebook: the king of social media networks. As we all know by now, that didn’t happen, and compared to a lot of its glitzier, ritzier cousins in this space, it’s arguable that this could be one of the Google team’s flops.

However, while it certainly hasn’t reached the dizzying heights that its ambition required, it would be a mistake – a huge mistake – to discount it as it is still a very powerful tool in its own right for marketers. Just not in the way that anyone originally thought it would be!

Like LinkedIn, Google+ is more of a professional place with a serious undertone where people are looking for connections. For this reason alone, it’s a good idea to have a profile. Chances are, you already do if you’re already in the general Google ecosystem.

It also serves as a great place to share content, grow your network, and discover new content. One of the most powerful things it can do is quickly rank a lot of your content. Google search will rank a lot of things a lot quicker if it’s in their ecosystem, and this is no different.

While Google+ isn’t the most exciting place, and it can certainly take a back seat for much of your content marketing strategy, keeping it updated on a semi-regular basis is a good idea, and the bonus to your ranks is nothing to sniff at.

I’d advise adding stuff at least once a week and keeping on top of this: it’s a low-effort tool that can give a lot back.
