Do you think that someone who has worked for a long time will always be successful? I understand that my mentality and behavior at work strongly influence my success in the workplace. However, the longer you work in the same company, your discipline and performance will steadily decrease. Why is that? Because you are in a comfort zone that make you lazy. In this article, I will discuss how you can be successful by changing your attitudes to mimic a new employee when working for a company for the first time.

Good Discipline and Work Ethic

A new employee does not hesitate to give all his ability for the benefit of a company. He will usually be nimble and responsive to the tasks. Furthermore, he will obey the rules of the company and do the best he can to complete tasks. I know this is very difficult to do for those of you who have worked for a long time and are stuck in daily routines. However, it is always a good idea to remember how excited you were when you start. Remember the old days when you were still clueless and how happy you were when you receive your first paycheck.

Always Open For New Opportunities

New employees still have a high willingness to take advantage of every available opportunity. For example, during a lunch break, there may be many senior employees who are rushing to eat, relax, and chat with their peers. However, if we compare it with new employees, they often willing to give a few minutes to finish their work first and take advantage of the opportunity to provide a good impression to their supervisor. Not that I encourage you to suck-up to your boss, but there is nothing wrong to show your goodwill to your boss.

Bringing Fresh Ideas

A new employee often comes up with fresh ideas --even when the idea has been discussed previously without his knowledge-- and struggles to finish it to the end. Usually, new employees will be asked to give opinions or ideas about things to do because employers consider new employees to have new imaginations and insights that may not be obtained from experienced employees. The ability to think outside the box, creativity and millennials dynamics often help their career.

No Politics

A new employee does not have the political motive to "attacks" his colleagues, because what he has in mind is only to do the work properly and can be acknowledged by his boss. I once also experience the same thing. As a new employee who is quite disciplined, never comes to my mind to look for opponents, because for me they are colleagues who must be respected. A new employee also tends not to be a picky friend. He will be polite and respectful with all of his peers. Why is that? Because he positioned himself as a new employee, who had to blend in with the people around him. In his mind, there was no social stigma at all.

If we as seniors in a company have a sloppy and lazy work ethic, we will lose to new employees who have a high motivation and work ethic. Usually, some of us when we have worked long enough in the same job, we are faced with situations where we are stuck to the routines and lazy to develop ourselves to be a better man. If we give our first day each month to refresh and change our mindset by telling ourselves "what can I do differently today to enhance my career?" We will think critically about how to upgrade our skill sets. An example of self-improvement is to take part in pieces of training to improve performance and reading books. With these activities, we will become more knowledgeable and will not lose to the new employees whose brains are fresher and brighter. If you cannot be younger, be wiser.
