When you have a commercial building, you should consider every possible ramification of maintenance and improvement choices. When it is time for commercial roofing installation, this is more critical than you might think. One of the most important things to consider is how your choice will affect the roof surface temperature. The hotter the roof gets, the higher your cooling costs will be, and it will also affect how long your air conditioning equipment can last before needing to be repaired and eventually replaced.

On a typical hot, sunny day, your building’s roof could be just ten degrees hotter than the ambient temperature, but it could be more than double if you don’t choose the best option for commercial roofing installation. If your goal is to have a cooler roof, your best option is to go with one of three options: vegetative, cool-painted metal or white TPO or PVC.

The next best options include white asphalt shingles, gravel, and unpainted metal. The least desirable options if you want to control cooling costs and save your equipment from excess work are a black roof or black asphalt shingles.

It is also important to recognize that going with a cooler type of commercial roofing installation will mean your building’s roof will last longer. The more the surface heats up, the quicker it will degrade. In addition, if you go with a black roof, you are also adding to the urban heat effect, which isn’t the best option for the environment. When you weigh the pros and cons of a cool roof, it is easy to see why this is the best option for commercial roofing installation.
