Say Hello to the New Roles of a Manager!

The roles of today's manager might have been misinterpreted with all the noise and we think it's time to redefine it. Management isn't a bad position to be in per se, the problem simply is that the role and purpose of a “manager” haven’t kept pace with what’s needed.

Today, managers play the role of controlling and allocating resources to enforcing labour, reaching targeted goals, meeting deadlines and fixing problems. They're like the police in the office. However, the time might have come when managers need to step up to mean more to an organization or get replaced by technological innovations.

Consider it for a minute. All the roles of management are better carried out by robots and AI today. From Moderating groups to supervising a job to completion. You don't need to hire a manager when you have a highly-performing tech that can supervise a task and leave no room for errors. Thus, this isn't just about the employees getting fired or replaced, this is about the manager who's feeling slightly more useless every day as a new piece of technology gets shipped into the front door.

Also, today's management isn't just about problem-solving alone (which, of course, naturally occurs as a result of the various business operations). It's rather about proactiveness and the surge to find better ways to grow a business rather than just wait t put out the fires.

There are several other key roles of management today which should be revised to suit the times, and I have found a great article by Joseph Pistrui on HBR.org titled The Role of a Manager Has to Change in 5 Key Ways This article talks gives a better perspective on this topic and particularly focuses on 5 of those roles and explains why they matter. Feel free to follow up with the link below!
