Apple makes good products (usually). They however, are one of my least favorite corporations. Mainly because of their increasing trend towards closing as many doors as they can and pushing to more and more proprietary so that the only way you can get anything for Apple products is from Apple. This trend is happening in a lot more places than just headphones.

I am a game developer. I was planning on releasing my game on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Some things Apple has done recently have made me think it may not be a good idea for me to release my games on Mac.

For example: Were you aware that some titles that previously worked on Mac and use OpenGL no longer work on Macs due to them removing some of the functionality. Furthermore, rather than embracing Vulcan like the rest of the world they are pushing people to use their proprietary Metal protocol/API. As a developer my title would have used OpenGL on the Mac and it would probably work NOW. My concern is that they can arbitrarily decide to remove functionality and I tell my customers I am selling them a Mac game. Suddenly, I have a game that no longer works due to Apple stripping functionality. That is not a risk I can afford to take.

I got the Boose headphones with bluetooth, it sucks - happily I can use the Jack-cable so I don´t have to listen to the bluetooth distortions.

If apple is going with no Jack, then I agree with you - they sucks and will not be rewarded with money from me either.

I also switched to Apple when Jobs was boss - got in with the white iMac back in 2007 and I have enjoyed Apple products for the longest time.

Upvoting your post.

The future of all electronics is wireless. There really is no way of stopping that. By not including a headphone jack in the next iPhone Apple is not necessarily forcing you to buy Beats headphones (which suck, i agree) What they are doing is forcing headphone manufacturers to adopt wireless technology, and this may take a while.

Its interesting to see that more and more Apple users are throwing in the towel. This includes myself.

great perspective. though still, given that headphone companies like Audio Technica, Beyer Dynamics, and Sennheiser cater more to audiophiles and studio musicians/engineers, they may not be as likely to hop on the wireless trend - creating a real dilemma for those who want to use these quality tools with an iPhone...

though, your point has also cracked my mind open to the POSSIBILITY of just surrendering, and getting a second pair of wireless headphones. that could have benefits as well...

The only thing I dislike from Apple is the Mac OS. I have seen some good arguments why removing the Digital to Audio Converter (DAC) from the phone is actually a good thing because the DAC which is built into most phones is small, and not very good quality. By building a higher quality DAC into the headphones themselves, you will get a better sound quality.

I think Beats fits the apple model perfectly and it looks like there is another standard headphone jack emerging as some android phones have already beat Apple to removing the 3.5 mm jack. It is called a USB Type-C Audio connection, it is digital not analog like the 3.5 mm jack. The digital headphones and digital signal will be a far better sound than the lossy analog alternative of the 1900's. Sorry dude, but this was just a matter of time . Go ahead, ditch Apple, you wont get around this problem in the future.

hmmm. thanks for sharing, I didn't know this. good point worth reconsidering...

Bluetooth 5 is coming up with a capacity improve of 500% which means that you will have crystal clear sound via Bluetooth. In the future I don't see anybody using cables on their headphones.

So, the new iPhone won't have general Bluetooth that's compatible with any Bluetooth headphones? Is that right?

I moved to an iPhone about 4 years ago. I thought it was great. It was my first smartphone. Then, after a couple of years, my work stopped upgrading my iPhone. So, I just bought a Samsung....LOOOOOOVE IT!!! I've purchased 3 Samsung devices in total! Why anyone still wants an iPhone given the flexibility and options on Android is beyond me.

I like your thoughts though. It certainly does matter to some people. And, Steve Jobs drove profits and growth with innovative products. It seems that Tim Cook is driving innovation and growth only if it suites the agenda of the majority shareholders. Apple's definitely lost a step or two. That's why Samsung has grown so much in the past few years.

Give Samsung a try, you may find you like it!

what are your favorite things about the Samsung that you prefer to iOS/iPhone?

Ah, man. I totally agree with you there. I hate Apple. I never buy Apple. I stay well, well, well away from Apple because of the selfish greed at their core. It's the way the world, companies are moving now.

They don't care about us anymore. Their CEOs sit rubbing their greasy, blood-stained hands at the thought of more profit and more revenue.

I agree with the sentiment but there will be more than just Beats headphones that can use the new Lightning standard. Now, whether it becomes a proprietary standard that other companies must pay to access, I'm not sure.

I recognized early on that Apple was a POS company, strangling users with control in pursuit of locking users in to their products and maximizing profits. Such a shame.

Your story is almost similar to me. I have stopped buying Mac-related products since Steve died and never look back. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting this unfortunate reality. It is a kind of sell out. As an artist, I am particular about the kinds of materials I use. A brush has to be many things before it can compare to a Winsor & Newton Series 7. And for music, I get it. If music is your thing, you KNOW. You are the professional. The marketing at Apple doesn't. It's sad when corporations make decisions for the ones who understand what constitutes the best, all in the name of profit. Sorry to hear it.

thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Congratulations on finding your irk with crApple. They appeal to the masses without allowing anyone to really be an individual. It's not just the headphones, it's a lot of things. You've have woken from your 10 year slumber.

Thanks for the info!
