Work Smarter Not Harder!

When it comes to work, and especially important when you work for yourself and run your own company. Whether a one man band or with several staff, it is imperative that you manage your time effectively and if applicable that of your employees.

We've all heard it, or even said it, 'There is not enough time in the day!'. However some people seem to get more done than others, and after all we all have the same number of hours in the day. So what is the secret to being more productive?

The answer is quite simple, it is all about forward planning, laying out your day, and doing this in a form of a daily diary or task list. Firstly, look at what you need to accomplish for the day, set out the tasks in order, those that are urgent and important, urgent not important, important and lastly non-urgent. If you are lucky to have people working for you, delegate some of the tasks out and set out a timescale for it. Tick off the tasks and jobs as you complete them. (This will give you a sense of achievement along with satisfaction.) And if you don't complete all your tasks for the day, whether it is too much workload or that you are being pro-active with other things such as unexpected client calls or new jobs, then carry them over to the next day.

This not only works with daily planning, but you can apply it to much longer term tasks, for instance we are currently managing 3 website builds one scheduled for 21 days, one for 14 days and one for 10 days, and by planning the schedules of what needs to be done to complete these, (around our daily tasks) it ensures that we meet the necessary deadlines and more importantly get paid on time.

So, if you are struggling to get things done, take our advice, sit down and plan ahead, work smarter not harder and you will find you will get so much more done.
