WHAT IF I’M WORKING FOR SOMEONE

in business •  7 years ago

A few weeks back. I bumped into an old friend and after exchanging pleasantries, the conversation moved towards finding out how life after school was. This is a line of discussion I dread delving into because I know where it would eventually well it was a very good day for me so I decided to take the risk and as expected, “vhe I thought you studied business management, why are you working for someone” AAAAAAAARGGGGHHHHH!

“I’m working for someone” seems to be one of the most embarrassing statements a promising Nigerian youth could make or that is what we have been made to believe.
It ma
Well to an extent we have been played.

Why so embarrassed?

if you don’t build on your dreams, someone would hire you to help them build theirs.

The reason why a good number of young employees feel bad about working for someone is because they feel they are hired to build someone’s dreams whereas they should be busy building theirs.

We have been made to believe that having a million dollar idea and making it work with CEO attached to your name irrespective of your career study is where dreams should be tilted to
I used to believe so until I went through a couple of thought processes.

There has always been two sides of a coin and face down you would only get to see only one side.

When hiring what do employers have in mind?

One of the biggest worries of employers is the right team but a couple of us do not see it that way, we just believe they are looking for people to exploit while all of the money goes into their pockets.

Let’s shift thinking a bit.

No matter how smart a visionary or entrepreneur is, they would definitely need people to help them work their process, not just people but experts, team members that are good at what they do and are passionate at what they do.

In most cases they do not get their exact spec or they spend a lot to outsource experts, an alternative is training someone from the scratch and a host of other activities I would not dig into here.

when applying what do employees have in mind?

The first would be to meet financial needs, followed by career needs, every other thing comes under these two. One of the reasons why most people experience job dissatisfaction is because the job doesn’t meet these needs.

Psychological Contract is the corporate jargon we use to describe the above.

The reason I brought this out is because we are quick to get embarrassed about working for someone forgetting that they are to an extent meeting our needs.

We are quick to want to kick our bosses in the ass because we believe they are taking advantage of us..

We are quick to associate ourselves with failing to do something worthwhile

Why are we here

Be sure about your life goals and if working for someone would help you reach it, then unapologetically work for someone. Get your job done, Get your goals achieved and succeed…

Personally, i don't see anything wrong with working for someone, moreover, it's not everybody that have the fiance to start-up their own business... .working for someone also adds to your value because no experience is s waste.
Thanks @vheobong for sharing

Exactly dear...
It adds up to your experience

I also felt ashamed about working for someone early in life until someone made me see it from a different perspective.

The reason why so many businesses fail is because their founders have little or no experience in that field. They go into their business with no practical experience and only have their own mistakes to learn from.

I learnt this from personal experience, having an idea in a field is different from using in it on a commercial level.

You're right...
Being able to run and commercialize your business is a skill many of them to don't possess...

They were just swayed by sweet talks
