Keith Richards was asked, "Are The Stones the greatest rock N roll band in the world?" To which he replied: "Any band, anywhere, can be the greatest rock N roll band on any given night...."
When Woody Guthrie was at the height of his pre WW2 Hard Travelin most of America (certainly the world) didn't revere him thru the legend filter he is now viewed. You could pass him on the street; some wiry bum with a guitar. But when he played - for those with ears to hear - he could be the greatest on any given night.
Where is our modern day troubadour or trobairitz? There are, out in the world right now, quite a few of them hidden in plain sight, doing as June Carter-Cash said she was once doing, "Just trying to matter." You might find one on the 261st page of a google search for singer/songwriters. You might find one at an open mic night in Patterson NJ. You might find one busking in The Tenderloin, some wiry bum with a guitar. On any given night, anywhere in the world, quite a few people are out there waging heavy peace with music, trying (always trying) to make a positive difference to their world and the world of the people around them, those with ears to hear.
