유 My Position as a Black Man: A Black Panther Review ✍ ✔

in busy •  7 years ago  (edited)

This is my own review of Black Panther as a Movie( in response to @fisteganos) ,although this was inspired by @ehiboss response here:

I have decided to keep quiet since you posted about your stance on my beloved movie "Black Panther". Reason being that I believed you have a point, yet you were wrong in some of conclusions.

I like the fact that you said We really don’t need to have “our own superhero movies”! That’s being a copycat! We don’t tell stories that way! We tell stories the way Nollywood tells stories; family drama. Asking us to make our own superhero movies would be like asking a snake to walk upright.

Wait there! The reason why we made Family Drama is because it is easy, no stress, just gather a family and have them talk , but then even snakes work quite upright when there is a need to. More so, we are not even snake. One thing you don't seem to realize is that Blacks were meant to be more creative, innovative and courageous than the whites. So, we can not make ourselves seem lesser than we truly are.

If I am correct, Wakanda was supposed to be situated in Congo, I think you should read about Congo and you will be amazed by the message the movie is trying to pass.

I think you were also trying to say `Our ways are different , so there is no point trying to be someone else, and most importantly, I think your major dissatisfaction is having whites tell us our stories in a way they deemed fit".

Nevertheless, your philiosophical stance is exactly the same with the movie's philosophical stance.

The hidden meaning in the "Black Panther" was that blacks can rules the world only if they learn to do it their own way , with the seamless infusion of culture , yet not undermining our originality in terms of religion, spirituality and ways of life. And that was why we have the "Sonic-powered Kampalas" the "Traditional Fighting Duels", the water-fall side "Coronation Ceremonies" and "Multi-Family Democatic Monarchy".

More so, that movie was a budget risk. Placing a Black Man as a Poster Cover for an action movie is dangerous, so the studios took a risk. Marvel Studios is not to big for a Box Office Failure and they know that.

Futhermore, the movie was highly formulaic, it wasn't time wasting, it was like a traditional messaging capsule "AROKO", so that might make many people feel like "What is this?" , but they hoped some people will get the message. Right there is another risk.

Also, breakthrough movie are not all about risk. Some people were suggesting Michaal B. Jordan as a replacement for Chadwick Boseman. This is my take on that: Good Actors don't act, they become their role and forget reality, ask Marlon Brando, ask Joker, ask the best of the best , and that is the more reason why it is always a miracle when an actor plays a role that is so far and distinct from his personal make up, ever wondered why Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage always have the same respective demeanour for all their movies also You could be right if you say Chadwick wasnt such a good actor, he seemed weaker than the rest, the rest of the main actors were clearly better than him, you have a point there, but that doesnt mean Michale B jordan would have been a good replacement.

Furthermore, I really don't believe in the idea of "I am black and You are white", we are all the same. If they tell our story, I really do not mind. When Chimamanda was in Nigeria, no one knew her , when she travelled abroad to study African studies in a Non african Country, then we heard about her. Who groomed her, blacks. No! Whites!

By the way, the reason why they are the one telling our story is because you and I have refused to tell it in a better way, and please, don't cite corruption , lack of access to a capital as a reason, I use to believe that too. Rather , the reason why we didnt do that is because we really do not care about it.

Now you may say, it's just action movie. No , it is not. Just wait for 25 years more and you will know that this movie is not just a movie , it is the beginning of another era for the Announcement of Black Glory and Possibilities of Africa being a great nation. (Yeah, nation, we are not really a continent).

If you want to look further, why did they use Kendrick Lamar's Song in the end credits.

Maybe you should try and watch the video of that song, then you will know the song and the movie are actually passing the same message. The video of the song is even deeper than the movie.

One last thing, I believe that when a company has been standing for long in an industry, it is best to accept that their presence has been ensured , more by their Mission and Vision, rather than by Profits.

I know of nothing more despicable and pathetic than a man who devotes all the hours of the waking day to the making of money for money's sake.

  • John D. Rockefeller

They made profits, yeah, fine but that doesn't remove the fact they had good intentions.

Also, the idea of that movie was initiated by Wesley Snipes many years back and if you know Wesley Snipes, you would believe me when I say "He knows the meaning of roots, I mean he identifies more with being an African"

More so, all of us Blacks have an identity problem when we travel out of this country, why, because the culture (music, movies and television) has portrayed us a corrupt , animalistic , babarian and ill-informed. Where as no one has ever mentioned the fact that the English People were the real babarians and that the Original Americans weren't all that civilised.

So you might say whites told our story, but a black man initiated it.

I am a Nigerian but before that, I am a World-ian, I am from earth. So , there is a level where theI am black , I am white thing really starts and ends.

Thank you, ma. Really do appreciate your support

I have to see this movie, everybody is talking about it...
Nice review...

You should see it. You really need to

This makes a lot of sense. Your appreciation of the movie is rich.
I also share the opinion that the movie

is the beginning of another era for the Announcement of Black Glory and Possibilities of Africa being a great nation.

I also feel that it would be great if Africa could unite.

Thanks @evashinen

The video of the song is even deeper than the movie.

Lol. Goddamit, it’s Kendrick for goodness sake! Kendrick will make a better superhero movie than what Black Panther can ever hope to be. Don’t give Kendrick’s credit to the movie at all.

Why did they use Kendrick’s song? Mans the biggest black superhero alive right now! It’s all business on the part of MCU. They saw something they could attach themselves to and they hopped on it.

Also, the idea of that movie was initiated by Wesley Snipes many years back ...

Oh really? I thought it was an adaptation of the comic book series 🤷🏽‍♂️

I probably have no issues with the other points I didn’t touch on. 🤤😁

I accept your conclusion. Kendrick is actually a real life hero. A deeper character than all of them combined.

This is a wonderful review

However, until I see the movie... (sealed mouth)

Yeah. You should see the movie.
