The issue of Mikhail Saakashvili's extradition to Georgia was discussed in Kiev by Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko with Georgian deputy prosecutor Georgy Gogadze. Ukrainian media reported that two officials agreed on extradition.

issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular, on international legal assistance in the course of criminal proceedings and extradition, were discussed.

The meeting participants positively assessed the existing format of cooperation in this area and the possibility of exchanging experience at the expert level, expressed the hope for cooperation in the future.

The Tbilisi court sentenced ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili to three years in prison in early January for illegally pardoning those convicted in 2006 for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani.

Experts in Kiev regarded this verdict as the basis for Saakashvili's extradition to Georgia. The request for extradition to his Georgian authorities came to Kiev last year. Georgian Justice Minister Thea Tsulukiani said on December 12 that Tbilisi has not yet received any response from the Ukrainian side to the request for the extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili.

Recently, Saakashvili announced that the migration service of Ukraine extended until March 1, 2018 the validity of the document, which confirms the legality of his stay in the country.

The Georgian-Ukrainian politician has earned four criminal cases in both countries. In Georgia, he can face up to 11 years of imprisonment in total, in Ukraine - up to 10 years.
