Recently the parliament of France began to discuss banning cell phones, or any type of electronic device, from educational institutions for young people under 18, including institutes, colleges, preschools, etc; denoting that the universities and technical superiors will be able to carry the devices, since they will already be of legal age.
In addition, there would be exceptions for students with disabilities, young people in certain extracurricular activities and particular situations, as requested by the teacher.
The debate has developed around that this measure had been applied previously without causing so much controversy, since the students can not use the devices in the classes unless it is allowed; The problem is that this norm is not being met, causing them to be distracted from their responsibilities.
The answer that they are finding a group of the parliament is to prohibit them, or to ban them , alleging that the same norm would be maintained only that applied in the reality.
Opposition politicians allege that this would be a step back in the world we are in, where policies should be about progress not backward; Meanwhile the representatives claim that it is the means of direct communication with their representatives. However, if you wish to contact you must do it through the institution, not directly with the student, since the young person should always be in the facilities, therefore, they can contact you.
The interesting thing in the matter is that the majority of the parliament is voting in favor of the prohibition, although some emphasize that those who postulate the law and defend it tend to be over 40 years old, claiming that there is a relationship.
And the students?
As a university student, it was recently that I left my school, and I have to accept that they are in fact a distraction, students use them; however, it is a minority that use them out of order, being a ratio of 1/6 approximately. In addition, on several occasions it is used because the teacher is not in the classroom or allowed it, primarily to listen to music or research a topic on the Internet.
So in my opinion, this law feels that it is " for one everybody pays" , where for a minority the majority is being punished. I liked to listen to music when the teacher gave us free time, or when I walked home on my own; they are activities that this law would prohibit me.
My opinion is that if the problem persists it is to renew the consequences of not following the indications, although it would still happen, but I would partially solve it.
