The archaeological finding was made with laser technology in more than two thousand kilometers of the Mayan Biosphere Reserve of Guatemala, in the department of Petén (east).

To carry out the discovery, the digital removal of trees was achieved, which revealed that this civilization was much more advanced and complex than was actually estimated, said one of the archaeologists who participated in the discovery.

It was discovered a complex of super highways that connected with urbanized centers, quarries and irrigation systems and terraces for agriculture.
The study revealed that 10 to 15 million people may have lived in the community and not five as was originally considered.
