(40.43) The United Nations delegation canceled the Gaza tour
A UN delegation has canceled plans for a visit to the region as Israel has renewed air raids in the blocked Gaza valley. The tour was scheduled to start on Thursday. Middle East Media Middle East Monitor has reported.
Nicolai Mladenv, the special envoy of the Middle East peace process, canceled the tour plan. In a statement on Thursday morning, he said he was deeply concerned about the ongoing violence in Gaza and Israel.
The UN envoy warned that if the ongoing tension continues and if it does not stop now, then the situation will get disturbed due to the rapid deteriorating situation.
During the visit to Gaza, Nicolai Mladenv was discussing a draft proposal for a long-term ceasefire with Israel, with several senior leaders of Hamas regime of Gaza.
The Israeli army said it had carried out air strikes at more than 150 Palestinian installations since Wednesday. Two children, including one pregnant Palestinian woman, were killed in these attacks.
