Road accidents and careless driving…

in busy •  6 years ago

From last two days Dhaka city, the capital of Bangladesh is stuck due to the ongoing protest against the death of two school going students.

The accident took place on the footpath of airport road while a bus run through a number of students. As per the witness, this is nothing but careless driving as the victims were nowhere near the risky zone (standing on footpath). Two buses from the same company were competing to overtake one another and went up on the footpath to hit the innocent students.

A report says, total 4284 people expired in 2017 in Bangladesh due to road accidents while the number is 1.25 million for all over the world.

In third world country the number is comparatively high. The reason is lack of competency and education.

Let’s analyze the the reasons of road accidents-

—The tendency not to follow traffic rules
—Lack of knowledge of traffic rules
—Violation of speed limit
—Driving with sleepy eyes
—Driving by taking alcohol
—Careless driving
—Driving without fog light during winter
—Driving unfit vehicle
—Using cell phone during driving

How can we reduce road accidents and casualties?

—Be vigilant
—Understand and Obey traffic rules
—Wearing seat belt while traveling
—Avoid any kind of drugs while driving
—Don’t talk with drivers while driving
—Examine vehicle condition before starting

We have to keep in mind that one accident can cause death not only one person but also destroy the entire family. So, we should take care of ourselves as someone is waiting for us at home.

Let’s educate our drivers not to drive carelessly and obey traffic rules.

Thanks for stopping by.

—Don’t talk with drivers while driving

I disagree with that one. Unfortunately I don't have the references at hand, but I believe research has been done proving that while a telephone conversation (even with hands-free) really can distract the driver, a conversation by a fellow passenger is usually not that bad. The reason is that the fellow passenger will usually also be reading the traffic situation, will understand when the driver needs to concentrate on the driving, will understand that the driver cannot answer complicated questions while he's concentrating on the driving. The passenger may also help, a conversation may keep the driver awake during the tedious long distances, and four eyes are better than two - the passenger may help to alert the driver if he has overseen something, and may aid the driver i.e. to switch the radio or do other non-driving tasks that the driver may want to try to do while driving.

It’s a complex situation and the answer could go both ways. I do agree with you that talking with fellow passengers the driver will not feel sleepy. But if the driver lost himself in imagination during talking, that could create problems. However, nicely said below-

four eyes are better than two

Thanks for your continuous effort and value adding to the article.

You are correct. Thanks for sharing your opinion.

yes i think same reasons of road accidents. Also i included two major point is --young driver i mean age not sufficient for driving & tendency of over taking

That's our previous car. At least roughly the same model - I believe the diesel-variant is only delivered to the EU and Nordic markets. My wife bought it because it's comfortable inside and has space for all the family plus some luggage or a couple of extra passengers, however there is always problems with this car, it was a quite bad choice.

The best way to avoid traffic accident ought to be not to drive at all - unfortunately, while safety is getting only better and better for the driver and passengers inside the car, the same cannot be said for the pedestrians and bikers out there.

There seems to be a growing trend in Norway that parents drive their children to school because they consider the school road to be too unsafe for the child to walk to school. Of course, they are only adding to the problem. We're quite lucky to have a reasonably safe route from home to school - the most dangerous part of the trip is actually right outside the school yard, where hurried parents are doing their best to get their children delivered by car to the school in the shortest possible time.

Yes, you people are lucky to have safe routes in Norway. It’s good to bring students by driving a personal car. But the problem is- many people can’t afford it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The fact will not change untill we change, end of discussion.

Soon self-driving cars will take over the roads, then the human element is out of the equation

Education and guidance programs for the drivers may help learning. They need to teach the value of life! And driving etiquettes!
Government have to take proper steps and more responsible!

You raised a good point. Thanks.
