Ways to buy steem that people don't think about.

in busy •  7 years ago  (edited)

Think outside the box.

As a newbie on steemit you are in for a long road to actually digging out of the first delegated steem power you recieve. I was there earning fractions of a penny when I realized this is not working. Did I give up? Hell no. I put in a plan of action. The rule to live by is don't invest anything you are not willing to loose. What does that mean? It means don't screw yourself trying to become a millionaire overnight. I will share a couple of my personal ways of buying crypto and steem on the side and how to get it here from fiat currency.

How to get it here

I use a throw away bank account (accounts are ussually free to open if you keep a certain amount in them ) that I only use for crypto transactions that way if it becomes comprised I don't loose my life savings or even rent money. Then you want a site like coinbase so you can buy the crypto using fiat money. You can then HODL it for a while if the market is going up or you can transfer it straight to steem or steem power using blocktrades.

Ideas on how to earn.

  1. I collect scrap metal.

A little bit soon becomes a lot. This load will be about $ 125 -$200. If I have aluminim it is way better pay

Yes, you will have to deal with crackheads but do you want steem or not?

2 . Firewood
firewood-3221231_1280.jpg
I have been cutting firewood for over 25 years so it is second nature to me. It pays usually $35 for a 8 foot long 4 foot high stack. Plus it is a great workout splitting firewood by hand and takes out a lot of agression.

3 . Perks of my job
Luckily besides my base pay at work we get spiffy and upsell $$$
At the end of each month we get to gamble on draws for all the stuff we up sold throughout the month
20180330_162552.jpg
I have had a page filled out like that and got $20 on the gamble snd other months I have got overy $450. Luck of the draw but free crypto either way.

We also have a chemical compsnny that gives us stickers off their products. Each sevicera comes with 3 stickers. Each sticker is a dollar. At the going rate 1.5 stickers is a steem power.20180330_162539.jpg

4 . Faucets
I go hit up faucets like coinpot and do all of them once a day. They don't pay shit daily but once again. A little adds up over time. I can cash them out once a year for 20 to 50 steem power depending on the going rate.

5 . Being frugal
Edited this one in after the fact.
Being frugal is something people consider poor people do. Bullshit. Over half of Warren Buffets wardrobe is from goodwill. That guy could buy us all and he is still frugal enough to not try to keep up with the jones' . So be frugal and bring your lunch to work instead of eating out. Saving that $3- $7 a day adds up to $60- $140 a month if you work 20 days a month. $140 will damn near buy you 100 steem at the going rate of $1.50 a steem. Buying cloths on the cheap at goodwill is not a bad thing. they have very nice cloths there. I had to do community service at a goodwill and it really opened my eyes on how much stuff they throw out because it does not meet their high standard. Don't believe me? go ahead and buy the same pair of jeans for $60 instead of $6, just more steem power for me to absorb.

In closing

I hope this kick starts your brain to realize that there are tons of ways to earn steem. Literally every dollar counts. Just because it is a dollar today doesn't mean it won't be $600 this time next year. Do you know why I used those specific numbers? Because even after the huge crash this year if you had bought $1 of bitcoin last year on this day it would be worth $600 today. Every penny counts. 1 penny last year would be $6 today . So get to work you lazy bum's and remember to throw me some scraps when you are millionaire's.

not bad!!

As we always say when we are working on the racecar. If it's stupid and it works, it isn't stupid. lol

I like your investing methods because you don't lose anything when you invest from scrap that you find.
I was actually just chopping wood with a real axe yesterday, not a hatchet like usual, and my back and knees are sore today. It's hard work and I couldn't even finish!

I use a splitting maul and then a sledge hammer to pound it in like a wedge if it gets stuck or run across a stuborn piece. I grew up in the backwoods or Arkansas so we only had wood heat so i have been spliting wood since i was a little kid. Makes you strong as hell though :)

Yeah i want to do it again to workout haha
I was struggling because i was trying to cut a large log lengthwise

oh yeah, that is not going to work out well usually.

All the best. May your steem grow many folds with each attempt.

I know nothing about cryptocurrency, but I know I am not going to use my real money for it. We are saving up to buy some off-grid property and that's where our extra money goes. It would be different if I understood how it has any value, but I don't.

yeah i am just kinda piddling around with it right now. the market is going to keep going down for a while. once it stabalizes it will bounce back up again but it has quite a correction coming I think before that happens.

So I am going to get a coinbase account in case I ever need to move stuff. Do they have a referral system where you get a bonus if I sign up through you? When the correction comes I might want to buy some steem with some other crappy coins I mined.

Oh, and what are these faucets? Can you get ripped off by them?

faucets are a thing that gives you very very small amounts of coins. some people say they are not worth their time. others have a little spare time and don't mind using them once a day. you do have to turn off your pop up blocker so if you are not comfortable with that then don't try them. some people say that they have gotten malware form them so i personally just try to stay with the larger faucets , coinpot specificly is the only one i use. I only use it because it seems to be a larger name in the business. so weight your choices and see what you want to do. you will make pennys a day but pennies add up to me. others scoff at pennies.

Yeah, like my boss always says. Bitcoin was a penny once. Have you tried Electroneum mining with your phone? I get maybe 20 coins a week from my phone and probably 10 a week from my old phone that is just on wifi. They're only worth about .02 right now, but it's free and doesn't really use your phone up. It's just a simulation, but you get real coins.

i have not. i don't really want to tie my phone up, as i use it quite often and it is already slow.

It actually doesn't use anything up on your phones resources. It doesn't use data or battery enough for me to notice it. It just sort of sits in the background. From what I understand, it just sees how much cpu power your phone has and gives you what it thinks you would get. I wouldn't do it if it was using data, because it's just not worth it, but so far I haven't noticed anything taxing on the phone.

This is what I get in the app data, if you were thinking of it. I just move the coins over to my paper wallet when I get 20 or so. If they ever are worth anything I will have a few put away.

Okay, I signed up. I'll try to figure it out later.

scrapping is fat money, crack heads dont put in that much work.
you should make a forge and start casting metal into ingots just for smexy status!
lol

I made a forge using two larger versions of the rotors you collect and I use it to melt aluminum cans. I made a nice figure of a woman using dough as the mould

have any pictures?

sick!

we actually have a lead smelter that we use to make the weights for the race car. it is wicked to play with. The lead is so heavy that you can take a car lug nut and throw it in the molten lead and it will float like an ice cube. I was planing on making a video of it next time we melt lead. I find it amazing to watch for some reason.

As for the crack heads i was down there last summer and had a fat ass load of aluminium rims and shit . Came out to like $600 and one of the crackheads beside me was scraping some silverware that it looked like he had just stolen out of someones house. So there i am with a fat wad of money thinking " this mother fucker is going to shank me"

there are alot of people that do silver casting that im sure would love to watch some lead smelting. even though its lead i would sugest using the steemitsilvergold tag if you do post a vid of it.

Im cracking up on the mental picture of a crackhead with some silver. truth is hes prolly a tweeker, if it was real silverware he was holding more money then you got. lol 16+ per troy ounce.
As an ex crackhead i can say unless your trying to fuck over the crackhead (short his bag) you have nothing to worrie about. crackheads will try to talk you into giving them money, tweekers will just jack you. or atleast in my experiecnce of being both in my life time.
lol

What is a tweeker? Never heard that term.
I used to sell aluminum scrap. Now I just sell copper and melt aluminum for projects.

at least here in the middle of america it is a term used for someone who uses a certain type of drug. Around here it is usually methamphetamine.

Hm yeah never heard it
Probably not popular in my area

thats a good thing.
lol

its all america, prolly some of mexico and canada too.
i grew up in cali and hawaii and it was common slang.
back when the bikers were cooking speed i remember that term alot, way before anyone was making glass like they do now.

meth addicts, its like......
smoke a bunch of glass and get tweeked out, then tweek out on some tweeker prodject for 8 hrs making a "perfect" in car phone charger.

thanks for the tip on the TAG . As for the silverware i used the word incorectly that is just what i call it. It was not someones fine china just normal stuff out of your utensile drawer.
from that description i would have to say this guy was a tweeker then. We have a little suburb right by there that is named independence , but it is known city wide by the name methdependance. Back in the early 90's to late 2000's it was always on the news for being the meth capitol of the united states.

lmfao! yeah sounds like a tweeker then. damn the way you make it sound methpendance sounds like a fun place to party for the weekend. lol
kinda kidding kinda not.

....you might enjoy my post I did yesterday...😂

(a bit of an ex partyer myself...)

LOL
Thats awesome i checked it out and gave it an upvote.
i woulda took a pee on the floor.
:D

That throw away bank account is a good idea. I keep all my own scrap too and cash it out a couple of times a year.
At work we have a steel bin out back that anyone can just take from, there are a few regulars who I think rely on it for income. Well recently a newbie came by and asked about it, he didnt speak good english and asked how much for all of it. I said just take it, he said 10 dollars?, I said sure, he said 20 dollars? and then I said OK. Didnt even have to work for that one!

lol. should have kept going at that rate.

Right on the money (pardon the pun) @doomsdaychassis! I have starting to find the value of money in the same reference, do I want to spend a little more and eat out today or do I want to buy the 2 or 3 steem that comes with being more economical? Many many decisions like that have started hitting me daily too. Great bit of wisdom to pass on, in my situation I spend so much time on here it makes perfect sense to monetize the most active hobby I have right now. Very well thought out, and yes us as newbies need to find every little way to become more efficient day to day to strengthen our influence here on the platform!

Oh for sure. I forgot to put thst in there. I may edit it. Eating out for lunch alone is from $6 to $10 usually. If you bring your lunch that is like $2 or $3. So 2-5 steem power a day by being frugal. X that by 20 work days a Month and that is 40 - 100 steem a month for just bringing your lunch.

I edited it in there also.

Wow, yeah really interesting take. I am also in that place to where I'd like to get more frugal and wise at how I blow my money. It would be very cool to have this weekly/monthly amount set aside to screw around with on here. Between all the sweat so many people into this because yes it is free in monetary cost, but expensive as hell at times on your labor and value of your free time. All great points, I think you cheetah botted my mind, lol.

Time is money and we all know, nobody is getting out of this life alive so you better make that money while you can.
