A day like today: Marie Curie

There was a girl born in Poland, and her father was a teacher who had some difficulties with the director of the school.

Then that girl, in revenge, invented an explosive with which she flew in a thousand pieces the doll of her companion, who was the daughter of the director of the school.

That of making explosives to tear up dolls had been learned in a physics and chemistry book that his father had somewhere and that he had read in his spare hours. The girl was called María Sklododowska and later the world knew her as María Curie

Years later, in the midst of untold economic hardships, that young girl traveled to Paris to study what she most wanted: science. In particular, physics and chemistry.

The students asked themselves: Who is that shy-looking, decisive-looking girl, who dresses so poorly?

No one knew for sure and they answered: "She is a foreigner with an unpronounceable name. He always sits in the front row in physics class "

That woman, of unpronounceable name, of solitary style, gave her life in the search of elements that until then were unknown.

They were the radioactive elements, of transcendental importance in medicine and in the later advance of science.
After several years, Maria Sklodowska, Maria Curie, managed to isolate the element known as radio.

But throughout all that time, she was subjected to poor living conditions, to strenuous working hours, and, unfortunately, to the action of the new element discovered by her.

That action was radioactivity, deadly, of course, but hitherto unknown, which finally ended his brilliant life.

The research work earned Maria Curie, for more than fifty years, to be the only person to win two Nobel prizes: the one of physics and the one of chemistry.

Maria Curie, for the glory of science, had been born on a day like today, November 7, 1867. And her name is written with all the honors not only among the characters of science, but among that strange category of the noblest human beings .
