This literary character was more important than its creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. So Doyle decided to kill him in one of his novels so he could devote himself to other matters. When he announced it, his mother wrote: "I warn you better not to touch Mr. Holmes. Take care to cause the least damage to a person so nice and nice that deserves all my appreciation. "

Despite the letter from his mother, Arthur Conan Doyle killed Sherlock Holmes, causing him to fall into an abyss. But he could not stand the pressure of his editors and readers. Then he had to resuscitate him in another story, and that day the London police were forced to intervene against thousands of people who stormed the bookstores to discover how the character had survived and what new adventure he had to face. During the time that Sherlock Holmes was supposedly dead, thousands of men and women in England wore black crepes on their hats and lapels.

Conan Doyle came to receive threats from his readers claiming revenge for the death of Sherlock Holmes. The shining intelligence of Sherlock Holmes was able to discover the perpetrator of any crime. But, of course, he was a character that only existed on paper, and for that reason he could not discover the crime committed by someone very close to him: the writer Arthur Conan Doyle, the same who had been its creator.

But this crime was committed, not in any novel, but in real life. And there was no Sherlock Holmes to solve it.
