Matthew 18:33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?
Compassion is a deep burden to reach out to others with a desire to help them overcome their difficulties. It's a Divine virtue that drive divinity into oneness with humanity. This same virtue is expected in us because as Jesus is, so are we in this world. The servant in Matt 18 received compassion from the Master and all his debts were wiped out instantly. But it was shocking situation that the same servant could not have compassion on his fellow servant.
Today, the Master is asking us, can't you also have compassion on others the way I have on you? Jesus have a great compassion on us, that's why we are not consumed in our mistakes. When we fell into deep problems and couldn't help ourselves, the Almighty God was there for us. When we offended Him beyond that which is forgiveable, He forgave us to our own surprise. Now, shouldn't we also forgive others?
This is the Master's heartbeat: that we treat others with compassion and pity just the way He treats us. It's an amazing thing to realize that He's shown us how to do it by doing it to us. Let go of hatred and have compassion on all, no matter how much they offended you.
Let's pray together.
Heavenly Father, thank you for your compassion upon us. Please help us to cast out anger from our hearts and be filled with compassion towards people, in Jesus name. Amen.
