Evlenince yüzük takma adeti bunda asırlar önce eski Mısırlıların inançlarına dayanmaktadır. Milattan sonra Mısırda yaşayan insanlar halka biçimindeki cisimlerin başlangıç ve bitiş noktalarının olmaması nedeni ile sonsuzluğu işaret ettiğine inanıyorlardı. Evlilik yüzüğünün özellikle sol el dördüncü parmağa takılmasındaki neden ise tıbbın gelişmesinden önceki dönemlere ait hatalı bir insan anatomisi bilgisinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Eski devirlerde dolaşım sistemindeki ana damarın sol el dördüncü parmaktan başlayıp kalbe uzandığı varsayılıyordu. Böylelikle bu parmağa takılan yüzük evli çiftlerin kalpten bağlılıklarını temsil ediyordu. Günümüzde tıp bunun böyle olmadığını ispatlamış olsa bile eskiye olan inanç bağlılığı yüzünden bir adet olarak devam etmektedir.
