Greater Noakhali commercial and economic possibilities are widespread. Considering this, the government took initiatives to build an airport in Noakhali. Noakhali's abandoned airstrip is being transformed into a full-fledged airport built on 16 acres of land in Char Shulukia village of Dharmpur union under Sadar upazila of Noakhali. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM Shahjahan Kamal has formally announced this in a public meeting in Noakhali on Sunday (July 22nd). He said, 'Noakhali Science and Technology University will be given the responsibility of conducting consultation on construction work consultants after the recruitment process. They will submit the report to the ministry in October this year.

In Noakhali Sadar Upazila, there was an airstep to spread pesticide on crop land before independence. After independence, it is abandoned due to lack of proper maintenance and service. 30 acres of land is unused in the airspace. In order to set up an airport at that place, on 1 August, 2007, Road Transport and Construction Minister Obaidul Quader wrote a letter to the then Rashid Khan Menon. In this letter, there is a small terminal with a runway in the abandoned space. Considering the public interest, the airports in Noakhali Sadar Upazila are requested to take steps to set up a new airport.
Originally known as airstrip, the runway-rich space for short-range aircraft landing. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) code of the airship was 'ZHM'. In addition, the International Civil Aviation Organization (AICA) code was 'VGSH'.
The minister also visited the proposed airport on Sunday. Making a dream of building the airport in Noakhali, she said, "Noakhali's large number of people are out of the country. A large part of the industrialists of the country, Noakhali. Many small and medium industries including industrial area and cantonment have been developed in the south of Noakhali. So here the airport will be econiciliy viable. '
