Güell was originally meant to be a small town. Eusebi Güell, a Spanish billionaire, commissioned the architect Antoni Gaudi in the year 1900. But finally, the costs of construction proved much higher than expected and only two houses and the park were completed.
The architect has made original shapes, rounded. Gaudi wanted to get closer to nature by borrowing certain characteristics, such as columns representing tree trunks. Both pavilions have rounded shapes.
He had begun to build a "100-column hall," which was to be the market square. It counts only 84 and is today a place of walk. There is also a 150-meter-long bench, whose shape resembles that of a snake. It is placed at one end of the square.
