Moscow - Telegram is known as an instant messaging app that keeps data and users confidentiality confidential. Therefore, the application is encrypted.
But not long ago, Russia asked Telegram to provide data access users. In a sense, companies must submit an encryption key to their home country, so that all user activity can be controlled by the government.
Reported by Bloomberg on Wednesday (21/3/2018), in the last year, Federal Security Service (FSB, Federal Security Service) Russia actually has appealed to Telegram to submit key encryption service. Then, Telegram refused.
This is certainly contrary to Telegram's vision in which it maintains the user's privacy with the encryption.
Telegram appealed to the Russian Supreme Court. The result is nil. Russian Supreme Court Justice Nazarova dismissed the appeal as judging that having an encryption key from a company does not violate privacy.
The Russian Security Service itself guarantees, when they have the encryption key, they will not access it or use it for a particular interest.
But this does not make Telegram melt to provide personal data users.
Consequently, the company fronted by Pavel Durov was asked 15 days to provide the key enkriipsi. Otherwise, Russia will block the service and oust Telegram from its own home.
User Data Transparency
In 2016, Russia itself has made an effort to require all instant messaging services to provide user data in a transparent manner. The move is to fight the increasingly widespread act of terrorism.
The Federal Security Service itself has guaranteed repeatedly, if given the encryption key, they will not 'tamper with' the user's personal data. In fact, the data received later should also require a follow-up process from the Supreme Court.
Telegram Still Refused
Telegram's lawyer, Ramil Akhmetgaliev, said that the Russian Federal Security Service's request for urging telegram encryption keys is cunning. Therefore, it will not respond to their request if it is given extra time.
"It's very funny, they're asking for something like this, 'I have your email password, but I do not control the contents, I just have the right to control.' We would not like it, we do not want our user data given to parties anyone, "said Ramil.
