Spain is a country with strong Catholic traditions and during the Holy Week, called Semana Santa (Holy Week), this is particularly noticeable. Although according to polls in the country only 10% of Catholics observe all church traditions and participate in the life of the church, on Easter week the majority of the population take part in religious processions and some days of the week are state official days off.

Every day, Semana Santa has its own special meaning and is accompanied by special rituals. They are organized by their religious communities-nazarenos (brotherhoods), some of which are formed on the territorial principle (district or quarter) or on arrival.

Take part in the procession - although not an easy, but very honorable duty, so among those who go to the procession around the city are many people respected in the district.

On the Easter week, it is customary to return home and visit the parents, so it is often this week that on the streets you can meet celebrities living in other countries. One of the favorites of the public Antonio Banderas tries every year to come to his native Malaga and, if possible, either participate in the procession personally or watch him from the balcony.

Officially, Semana Santa begins on Palm Sunday (or, as it is called here, on Palm Sunday) and continues until Easter Sunday, but the brotherhood begins much earlier. In the procession everything is important, there are no trifles, so the organizers carefully plan and decorate the platforms-trons (tronos), which the saints endure, and the music that will accompany the procession and attire of the participants. A few months before the Easter week, the streets and parks of Spanish cities can be seen rehearsing processions, drummers practicing the rhythm and singers, learning the church hymns.
The most colorful and large-scale processions are held in Malaga and Andalusia.
