The Bangladesh Marine Academy was established in Chittagong in 1962 to develop skilled manpower for trade ships. The academy offers the training and training facilities of international commerce ships cadets, deck officers and marine engineers. The Marine Academy, situated near the border of Karnaphuli and the Bay of Bengal, was established. Since its inception, the Pakistan Navy was responsible for its management. After independence, the government of Bangladesh took charge of the management of Marine Academy. Initially it started with 40 cadets (20 novelty and 20 in the engineering of the Navy). Currently, 200 cadets are admitted every year in the academy. From the founding of the Academy, about 4,000 ships and naval engineering cadets from the academy have been trained in the Master Mariner and the naval engineering profession by taking their training.

To get admission in the Bangladesh Marine Academy, one candidate has to complete HSC (science) or A level and participate in the cadet selection. After completing the written examination (Physics, Mathematics, English and General Knowledge), verbal and physical qualifications, a candidate is nominated for admission in the Marine Academy as a cadet. At present, equally large number of cadets of one hundred are admitted every year in the Marine Engineering and Naval Engineering (Marine Engineering) branch of Bangladesh Marine Academy. A cadet of the Navy branch has gained therapeutic and practical knowledge of professional topics like Seamanship, Navigation, Chartwork, Communication, Ship's Stability, Shipping Load-Unloading. On the other hand, a cadet of Marine Engineering Division, Marine engine, generator, auxiliary machinery, electrical system, various systems, Strength of Material, Ships Stability, machine drawing, etc., is trained on professional courses. In addition to the professional subjects, both the cadets of the University have achieved B.Sc degree from National University after studying academic subjects like academics like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. After completing the final examination after two years of professional and academic studies, a cadet entered the real life through the passing parade. Then join the Bangladesh Shipping Corporation or International Commercial Ship as Deck Cadet or Marine Engineering Cadet. After a minimum of one year of practical and practical training, again join the Marine Academy or any other non-profit institution in the Phase 3 course. Subsequently, in the Class XII examination, DG Shipping or any other international recognized organization has obtained the certificate. After that, he got the certification by participating in the commercial ship and participating in the class two and class one examinations. In this way, a deck officer or naval engineer of a Navy or Engineering branch, taking part in the required examination along with the necessary examinations and certificates, takes approximately seven to nine years from Captain or Chief Engineer respectively. After that, a captain or chief engineer, who earns full proficiency, can employ a commercial ship. In addition to this, he can devote himself to various types of land-based occupations, including harbors, international commercial ship related businesses, ship building, insurance ship surveys, marine training.

Japan's Ocean Policy Research Foundation shows that in the next 40 years (ie by 2050) 364,000 officers and employees will be needed in the navy commercial ship. UK's Precious Associates Limited company showed a statistic that in 2008, the demand for the staff of the world's navy-commercial ship was 533,000, and at the same time 499,000 people were provided with suitable officers. That is, the shortage of the world's navy and commercial ships was 34,000. According to the company's figures, ship deck and naval engineer will need 86,100 in 2012. Under these circumstances, Marine career has become a golden opportunity for a poor and intense employment crisis like Bangladesh.

The United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO), the World Naval University (Sweden), has recognized Marine Academy as one of its 14 branches, in recognition of the advanced training method of Bangladesh Marine Academy, the quality and quality of trained academicians, and the skilled professional officers of the academy. Bangladesh signed the UN navy charter on 27 July 2001 to establish our rights in the Bay of Bengal according to UNCLOS. Bangladesh is currently IMO White List recognized countries. Honorable Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, according to the severe crisis of naval officers in the current world, the marine academy has announced the fate of more than 6 (Rangpur, Pabna, Khulna, Barisal, Narayanganj and Sylhet) Bangladesh by June 2013 (2011). Tashra March 6, 2011, Bangladesh Marine Academy has been declared as 'Bangabandhu Maritime University'.640px-Seafarers_Memorial_BMA.jpgimages-21.jpgd771e045ce8a7b1945f117d6d41403c2-7.jpgunnamed-6.jpgimages-19.jpgimages-26.jpgimages-29.jpgamet-university-kanathur-chennai-marine-institutes-1qz3x8d.pngimages-39.jpgmarine-engineering-1436162311_835x547.jpgimages-15.jpgCampusmap_BMA.pngimages-12.jpg
