Selimiye Mosque
Here's the somewhat confounding sight of a mosque adjusted from a previous Gothic church. St.
Sophia's Cathedral, the first Christian building, was begun amid the campaigns by the Lusignans, yet never really finished, despite the fact that it was the preeminent church on the island.
Western eyes will perceive every one of the highlights of a gothic church, including the traceried windows and flying braces, yet straddling the front of the building are two tall minarets.
