After my vacation in June there were a number of complications that were not allowing me or facilitating my ability to stick to a diet. Visiting family and some travel made it almost impossible for me to do so. Therefore, as a person that sticks to the extremes, I decided to enjoy it while it lasted. Now, I am seeing and also feeling the consequences of not following through on my goals. I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed and surprised at what two months of breaking my diet did despite continuing my workout routines.
In summary, all the progress that I had made from the beginning of the year when I made my resolution up until the moment I left on vacation is now gone. In fact, it could be said that I am worse off now as it seems that the scale that I am now using actually has me over the weight I started. I do not enjoy to weigh myself every day but I am now doing it as a punishment for the past two months of my diet. It allows me to recognize the consequences of my actions which makes me think twice about not getting back on track. It has even impacted the way I feel when I work out despite not having stopped that portion of my goals.
On a positive note, I was able to workout and achieve my goals for fitness levels most of the month. With the exception of the week I was traveling which included hours in traffic, I was able to get plenty of workouts under my belt. However, it did come with some challenges as doing as much cardio as I do while putting on some weight has impacted the way my body feels in recovery from the training. In fact, I feel now that my joints have started to feel the pressure of the weight I have put on which has made me scale down some of the intensity of the workouts I do.
I have always prided myself for being very disciplined in my actions. The results of these last two months have really motivated me to get back on track in order to achieve my goals by the end of the year. In addition, I have now formally start to train for a 5K race I have in October which I have done for the past two years. As previous years, my goal is to finish in under 30 minutes which, as I have mentioned in the past, is very difficult for me to do on a treadmill. I often feel that its the adrenaline at race day and the aerobic capacity my body builds that helps me achieve it amongst the crowd. However, with the weight I have currently, it will surely be a challenge. Given the time I still have, I feel I have time to get back on a path in order to achieve it.
@actifit continues to be the driving force that helps me remain motivated in these goals. There were numerous times during my travels this month where I was below the minimum activity in order to post here on Steem; however, the app actually motivated me to get that extra work done to remain active within the community. Given the continued development that we see from the community and the potential of this expanding user base, I am even more excited to be a part of it all as they continue to find ways to keep us engaged. I often wish there was an Dapp here that tracked my eating as it would surely motivate me to keep on track. While I have applications to do that, the incentive has not really been there to motivate me.
I will be watching the ugly scale on a daily basis to ensure that my metrics are headed in the right direction. It has been about a week and I have remain disciplined to my diet so I am looking forward to start seeing results in a week or two. Hopefully, by the end of this month I will be brave enough to show the seesaw that has been this journey for me this year. In the meantime, I remain focused on the learning long-term goal which is to enable myself from a mental and physical perspective to enjoy the results of my hard work not only in life but across the ecosystem.
