Have you ever given up on anything because you you think you're not smart enough to do it? Well, I have done that a couple of times. I usually think I was not smart or intelligent enough to do some certain things I really wanted to do.

Although, all my teachers have always identified me as a smart and intelligent girl, I still never had that confidence. Maybe because I have never gotten that remark from my parents or any family member.

Verbal remarks from those closest to us contribute a lot to our mental formation. This is why patents have to be very careful with what they say to their children. Your words can make your child grow up to become a mentally stable or unstable adult. Now, this is a topic for another day.

However, the good news is, you can undo whatever was done to you in the past. Yes, you can start speaking positive things to yourself. Tell yourself you are smart enough to do whatever you want to do. Keep renewing your mind with rejuvenating words everyday.

Step out and do that thing that scares you. That thing that makes you feel you are dumb or not smart enough. At first, you might not get it right. Do not be discouraged. Be persistent and diligent. Keep doing it and after a while, you will begin to realize that you are actually smarter than you think you are. A lot of the world's celebrated geniuses only got it right after several attempts.

A lot of achievers were not born smart (according to the world's definition of being smart). They worked their way into it. You too can be acknowledged as the smart one if you dare to make an attempt.

Before you write off yourself, always remember this;

You a greater than what you think you are.

Namaste!

@ogoowinner, that’s the truth, in everyone of us lies great potentials that we cannot even imagine, but like you rightly said; “Verbal remarks from those closest to us contribute a lot to our mental formation” and when we don’t get it from them, it affects! Yet I support the notion that we should be self-motivated always.

Still your brother @maxdevalue

Verbal remarks from those closest to me almost destroyed me. But thanks to those who taught me how to speak positive things to myself.

Thanks for reading.

Humans are not less on ability and capability. There are always some hidden Power but humans unable to trace them. It is like "nothing is impossible" where each one can able to do anything, they just need to have self confidence and zeal to do.
I wanted to share an instance....I never learned driving two wheelers when my friends were enjoying biking I use to give them dd am..untill I thought I ñeed to drive to meet some family needs and without any training I did it perfectly......

That third paragraph rings a bell. I don't know if it is the African culture or tradition that has affected the mentality of most parents such that they don't realise the effect of negative words on their wards or kids. Anyways, i'm glad there's a remedy according to your fourth paragraph. That is, in speaking positively to oneself. I've had to rely on that in building my self esteem and confidence since i was a teen.

And, yes! I am smarter than i think. I get that a lot from people but somehow i stopped believing in that because some challenges have made me feel otherwise. Sad! I'm gonna have to start working on me and my self confidence again. Thanks for this great reminder @ogoowinner.

We all face challenges. Sometimes, they come to break us. But we can use them as our stepping stone to greatness.

Thanks very much for reading.
