A report compiled based on data provided by governments to the United Nations and measures the ability of nations to meet the basic needs of their residents in terms of health, education, security, human rights, political participation, population growth, improved women’s status, cultural diversity and freedom from social chaos. According to the report, the overall picture for social progress in the world is grim with 21 African and Asian countries nearing social collapse due to concentrated poverty, weak political institutions, repeated economic failure, disease and cultural dislocation. But the report missed out corruption which is the bane of the Nigerian society and the major cause of poverty in the country.
According to world poverty clock, 82 million Nigerians (42.4% of the country total population) live in extreme state of poverty. It was reported that the rate at which people become poor in the country keeps increasing and some have put it down to the country over population in relation to its resource and the alarming rate of corruption.

An average Nigeria getting up from bed everyday is in war to fight hunger, shelter and meet life expectation. Tactics wins Battle while strategies win wars. I tell you that the best strategy to win the war of eliminating poverty is quality ideas and opportunities. Sometimes, it is not what you have but how effective you can use the available resources in proffering a solution to a problem that may or may not be existing. Let me use a story of a great war to illustrate my point.
Philip II of Macedonia had conquered enough ground by 338 BC to establish the state of Macedonia. Many parts of the newly conquered kingdom didn’t like being conquered, particularly Athens and Thebes, which raised 50,000 rebels to fight off Philip’s 32,000 trained soldiers at the Battle of Chaeronea. Philip was outnumbered, but his men were professionals, and the rebels were angry countrymen spoiling for a fight.
The first thing Philip did was nothing. He took an interminable time to set up his lines for the battle as the rebels waited for him to make the first move. Meanwhile they stood their bloodlust cooling as their skin baked in the sun. Then the battle began. The rebels had staked out a highly desirable position that Philip needed to remove them from. So he sent his men into battle, and then had them retreat almost immediately, as if unable to bear the rebel attack. The rebels chased them back to their “line,” not noticing that line was slowly moving, and so were they. Soon they were drawn completely away from the high ground they’d occupied. Philip kept doing this until the rebels were exhausted, bereft of spirit, and in open air. His trained soldiers then quickly stopped playing with their food and killed half the rebel army.
Strategies and tactics used in War that can be applied to solve poverty. The tools are

Idea: Idea and Information rules the world. If you study lives of people who overcome poverty. Ideas are sprung from dissatisfaction of present state of things and they creatively think a way to provide a solution that satisfies the particular state. The first step toward idea is the ability to analyze your environment, articulate an objective by fostering a conducive climate in terms of realistic corporate appraisal.
The antidote of poverty is Ideas.
Planning: Majority of people do not have a detailed procedure to carry out a set of activities. Goal, Objective and dreams are not enough to take the society out of the state of poverty. Individuals must have a plan and procedure to win the war of poverty. There is no war that has been recorded that the winner was the side with no plan.
Deploying of strategies and tactics are needed to maneuver every expected obstacle.
Organizing: Stalingrad in Operation Uranus, beginning on November 19, 1942. With the Germans pinned down and unable to maneuver, the Soviets delivered a heavy artillery bombardment from 3,500 guns on Romanian and Italian positions on either side of the city, then unleashed several armored formations, including three tank corps. They combined mobility and speed with devastating firepower, driving deep behind German lines to cut off and then defeat the entire German army in Stalingrad.
Organizing is highly important, it involves the ability of the individual to strategic position himself in a way that drive towards objective. One major factor that cause poverty is inability to structure, integrate and coordinate task goals.
Decision making: After failure to plan, the major reason that increases rate of poverty is indecisiveness. Life is filled with Uncertainty and risk, the ability to make good judgment is essential in every activities. When I joined steemit, I told a friend of mine to register because she complains a lot about her state of finance and if I am looking for her, I don't need to go to her house, if she is not updating are whatsapp status, she will be busy watching instagram videos. I practically talk to her through dm on instagram or commenting on her whatsapp status. She refused to join even after I showed her a steemians wallet. When I showed her the value of the same steemian account recently, she was forced to register because of how much he has made in a short while. Her account is yet to be registered and she has been disturbing me like I am @ned.
The point here is that we individual always fail to decide till the last moment.
Control: after carrying out plans, we fail to compare performance against standards (expected result). Jaime lannister of Game of throne said in the battle of seven kingdoms 'there is always lesson to learn in failure’. When things are not going the way you expect, you have identified the unsatisfactory performance and pursue appropriate action to correct significant deviations in performance. Controls are not meant to be a trap but rather a quick check that allows you to move back towards the direction of success.
If you check the life of poor people, they lack control system because they are focused on just eating and meeting immediate needs.
Self-Discipline: At Austerlitz in 1805, Napoleon chose a deployment that would tempt the opposing Austro-Russian force to attack him on his right. In doing so, he knew he would be able to overextend his enemies. Although under significant pressure, Napoleon held his reserve back until he was absolutely certain the allies were committed, then he struck. His troops smashed the allied center, beat off a counter-attack and then curled around the isolated allied left. It was a decisive victory, won by the precise commitment of resources at the critical moment.
Discipline means doing what needs to be done, when it needs to done, whether you like it o r not. (patience + Motivation + Determination = Self Discipline), it will get you through all difficult obstacles that get you way.

To end this post, I conclude that if you learn the strategies and tactics of successful war and apply it to individual life. Poverty will be reduced because if noticed the attributes of a military man, they are dedicated and devoted to a particular task. Government maybe failing to live up to its responsibility, individually, we have a lot to do in changing the poor state of the society.
