Washington - For the first time the US President is planned to meet with North Korean Leaders. But unfortunately the meeting was canceled by Trump. How does the international world respond to this?
Donald Trump canceled a meeting with Kim Jong Un planned to take place on June 12, 2018 in Singapore. This meeting was regarded as a historic meeting because the two countries can finally achieve peace. The summit was expected as a historic opportunity for the United States to persuade North Korea to release its nuclear arsenal. Therefore, many regretted the cancellation of the summit.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has issued a statement expressing regret that the summit has been canceled. "We are disappointed that President Trump's talks with Kim Jong Un on June 12 will no longer run as planned," he said in a statement.

Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin says North Korea has fulfilled its promises ahead of the summit. Putin said the North Korean leader "did everything he had promised before, even blew up tunnels and axes" from his nuclear testing site. "After that, we heard about the cancellation of the Summit by the United States." Putin said: "In Russia we hear this news and are very sorry, because we have calculated this as an important step in solving the problems on the Korean Peninsula and that will be the beginning of the denuclearization process there.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who helped to organize the meeting, expressed "deep regret" over the canceled meeting, as reported by Yonhap news agency. He also issued a statement urging North Korea-US summit to continue. Blue House press secretary Yoon Young-chan said that President Moon had meetings with the foreign minister, defense minister and chief of staff.

Meanwhile, many South Koreans are angry at Trump's decision. They feel they have been deceived into a lifetime opportunity to live in peace. "North Korea is in the process of doing all that is required of them, even exploding their nuclear sites," said Eugene Lim, a 29-year-old office worker in Seoul. "Trump is not interested in peace in our country, why can not he let us, the Koreans, live in peace?", He continued.

Dozens of female students and rights activists protested at various protests in Seoul on Friday to denounce Trump, with several people punching her face and tearing her photo.

Kim Dong-ho, a 38-year-old employee, said it was not right to isolate North Korea again as they made efforts to join the international community.

But Japan's foreign minister, Taro Kono, voiced support for Trump, saying it was "useless" to keep the summit going without any advance progress.

China, a close ally of North Korea, has urged the US to keep in touch with North Korea. The Chinese-run China Daily newspaper writes that both countries need to "stick to their commitment to dialogue to advance relationships."

Singapore regrets the cancellation of the summit, to be held there next month. Singapore has been selected recently from several other sites also considered, including the Demilitarized Zone between the two Koreas where Kim met South Korean President Moon Jae-in last month. A statement from Singapore's foreign ministry said the country "hopes that dialogue and efforts to find lasting peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula will continue."

UN

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres voiced deep disappointment over the cancellation of the meeting between the US and North Korea. Guterres, in his address at the University of Geneva, said, "I am deeply concerned about the cancellation of a planned meeting in Singapore between the President of the United States and the leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea." He urged both sides to continue their dialogue so as to "find a way toward peaceful denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula."
