Disclaimer: I made this article not to complain about the bandwidth issue everyone seems to be experiencing recently but to receive answers to some of my questions.
These past few days I've been reaching my bandwidth limit a lot quicker than usual. I didn't think much of it first - until yesterday. When I try to post an article and instead of a success message I was greeted by a bandwidth limit error. This is despite the fact that it was my first post that day. Baffled, I use https://steemd.com by @roadscape to check my allocated bandwidth and was shocked to find that my allocation was greatly reduced. Worst yet, even when I am not doing anything my bandwidth keeps reducing!
I did manage to get the article posted after waiting several more hours. But then it becomes negative again after voting and commenting on another author's post. So I did several searches to see why this is happening. But all searches points me to articles from last year or even before last year. I still read them though as they are still relevant and useful. Unfortunately, these articles aren't what I'm looking for. Using different key words I found @mahdiyari post which is the most recent I could find - a 21-day old article. Here is the link to his post -> https://steemit.com/bandwidth/@mahdiyari/good-eplanation-of-bandwidth-issue-and-delegating-sp-or-comment-and-get-steem-delegation
According to him, this is to reduce blockchain spamming from minor users. I believe everyone is aware what that means. This move certainly is effective fighting spammers but it also limits steemians who are seriously trying to contribute to the community. With the question of "why this is happening answered", I will go to the next questions.
Questions that will hopefully get answers.
How long will the reduction of allocated bandwidth last?
Is the reduction permanent (hopefully not)?
Lastly, what other solutions do witnesses and developers have to solve the issue of spamming, besides reducing bandwidth allocations?
I apologize for all these questions. I know that you guys are doing this for the sake of the community, and I am very grateful for that, but there must be better ways to do this. Hopefully, witnesses, developers or anyone on the know will take a bit of their time to answer the questions of this little plankter. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely
@riovanes
