Korean Traditional Folk Mask Near The World Peace Gate of 88 Olympiad in Seoul.

in busy •  6 years ago  (edited)

There were polls around the world peace gate of 88 Seoul olympiad.
And there were Korean traditional folk masks on the top of the polls.

In my thought, the architect tried to show korean traditional beauty through the traditional folk masks.

There were 4 column of the polls in front of the world peace gate.

I could not show you all of the masks in this posting. It is way to much photos of the masks.
But the masks had various expressions in their faces, mainly humorous.

So let me select some of the masks.
Actually the masks exhibited here in this posting have very complicated characteristics.
Some of the masks were the figures of the traditional folk mask dance, and others were the characters of old folk tales.

In some other cases, it was not easy to find out what the characteristics of the masks were.
Maybe, it seemed that the architect tried to express some Korean traditional culture through those masks.

Until now, I couldn't heard someone focus on those masks.
What was the architect's idea and what did he want to express through those masks in the forum of the world peace gate ?

Thank you

I like the expressions of the faces on those Masks @slowwalker they show what humanity is like in all races in the world in my opinion because of the wide-array of the expressions carved beautifully on those polls.

Of course, the humanity is as same as in the world

Interesting masks, I hope they stay out of my dreams or nightmares.

I think the Architect wanted to display the different races of people joining the Olympics all joined in peace, but showed different expressions that may found during the event. I always admire how you convey your culture through the pictures you post here on steemit @slowwalker.

Thank you so much

The statues are formed with various masks, each with a different appearance .. Very unique

These are quite fascinating pictures , the architect did a great job in showcasing culture alongside the art in the act of construction. Many cultures to explore and with the look of things , I guess those mask represents some kinda guardians not sure just what I thought.
Amazing pictures by the way

Thank you for your perfect interpretation

Most of these mask really look similar to those type masks and sculpture here in Osun Oshogbo Festival... Some among this mask really fun and some scary.... Some of this mask's might scared Away kids hehehe.... Even elderly one at night when thinking about those images might be scared of horror dream.. I couldn't really said this is what they mean but maybe to fun..and cultures.. thx for sharing @slowwalker

Thank you for comment.
And where is Osun ?

Osun State is one of the State in South-West Nigeria.. Osun Festival usually came up every year's which attracts different tourists from different part of the world... This year festival will take on August... I would have go there to capture some scenes but due to my camera faulty I won't be able to this because of the crowd too much barely phone could real scene going on there unless one's have be early there a day before... However, those mask/sculpture I said they look similar could be found here.. Osun Oshogbo Festival Sculpture Pictures there you could see some pics.

이런 조각상이 있는 줄 몰랐네요^^ 멋지네요. 우리의 아름다움을 기둥에 잘 표현했네요. 잘 보고 갑니다.^^

감사합니다

Fun masks, it's a good job
they were super great

Thank you so much

Probably the architect wanted to express some of the feelings that caused him to do such work architectural, it is difficult to know and more when they come from different cultures! In any way the photos are great thanks for sharing with us :)

Thank you for your interpretation.

Maybe the architect had the idea of showing some traditions of his country so that all the people of the world saw them, most of the masks are smiling what could be like this because the Olympic games bring joy to their delegations, they are different styles masks It can be for the different cultures of the world.
It is not known why he made them like that, but they are very beautiful.

Thank you for your kind explanation.
I agree with your interpretation
