The Walls of Soshoe-won Garden, The Essence of The Beauty.

The most representative characteristic of the Korean traditional garden is the harmony between nature and the building.

The boundary of the garden is not clear, the korean people didn’t want to make a clear boundary between the surroundings and the house. It meant they wanted to enlarge the boundary of the garden to nature.

The walls of Soshoe-won show us the most prominent characteristics of the traditional garden.
I mean, the wall could be said as the essence of beauty in Korean Architecture.

Unlike other ordinary walls, the walls in Soshoe-won actually had no function to protect from the invasion.
Anyone could enter into the garden, regardless of the walls.

Here in Soshoe-won, people, wind and water could come and go to the garden.
So there was no gate in this garden.

And there was only one gate in this garden building. The walls was ended at the unexpected place.
Anybody could enter into the garden.

In this garden, Nature, the wind and the water were the guests.
So, they made a place for the water entering into the garden on the wall.

Below are the place for the water

The empty place seemed for the wind and people.

In some case, the wall yielded its place to the tree.

The wall didn’t not fully encompass the garden.
So the wall of the back yard could be extended to the hill.

The wall of this garden had a completely different function compare to that of other buildings.

In my opinion, they tried to harmonize the artificial and nature.

The concept of the wall is the key point in Soshoe-won garden in my opinion.

respect for the environment, when building is essential. It is said that we must come to terms with the Genius Loci ... (the spirit of the place)

Most of the walls even have a roof on it @slowwalker so it is just a beautiful part of the traditional garden. I for one just do not want walls because it gives borders to people and limits their interactions to the surroundings.

I like your house it must be an awesome place to live and have guests over :)

This is a very poetic photo essay, @slowwalker - very artistic and permeated with emotion.

I love your remarks about the relationship between architecture and nature - between wind and rain, and light and people.

I agree with you when you write, the wall could be said to be the essence of beauty in Korean Architecture. Your photos show that to be true.

A lovely piece of lyrical writing today, my friend, and beautifully illustrated.

nice photos...

Your posts are sometimes so mysterious and not everyone understands them right. You tell so well in your posts, but honestly, I do not always understand all the same. But I always like your photos!))

Hey again, Its really good to see your photos. You always introduce great places with great pictures. We don't have these type of architectural designs here. I really love them. :)

I am amazed to the architectural skills of your forefathers, how they made the wall. It was so amazing, how they made the entrance of the water and the wind. I think the wall was not really made for protection but it was just a big decoration for the Garden. Thank you once again @slowwalker for the photos and information.

Those gaps that were seen on the wall represent the level of water or so did they? If so is something deep the river, besides that the sample of nature that is reflected there in those gardens is amazing the tranquility you can get, without doubt the photos are fantastic :)

amazing photography and i love nature

I think that the Builder did it justice, the the concept of wedding there be no real borders, but open to Nature with invisible lines. There's great Harmony in nature and I believe that we try and so many ways to duplicate that Harmony.

Thank you very much for sharing your journey through this beautiful Temple. I think a lot can be learned from visiting these places of Tranquility.

Have a wonderful Thursday.

Tip!

Nice place! Every corner good for painting!

Very interesting wall. I, too, it seems that the wall was more of an ornament than a goal to protect or protect. Giving you and Love.

Очень интересная стена. Мне, тоже, кажется, что стена больше носила роль украшения, чем цель защитить или оградить.Удачи Вам и Любви.

the stones are in its nature so beautiful to compliment every structure. Yu guys are endowed with such a natural beauty with these temples you show always @slowwalker
