One of things that is going to advance the Steem ecosystem is getting merchants to accept STEEM for payments. We are starting to see a smattering of it taking place.
I wanted to write about this for the past few days but with everything going on with Steemit Inc and the changes, my posts going backlogged.
This was brought to the community by @theycallmedan. For those who do not know, he is an entrepreneur who, from his videos, enjoyed a great deal of success. He fully embraced cryptcurrency and is very bullish on the potential of STEEM. He backed this position up with his hard earned cash, becoming a whale.
He has a product out that helps people when they do fasts. Intermittent Fasting is something that many recommend as a means to healthy and longevity. His product, Fasted, helps to increase energy and generate more focus.
The best part is this product can be paid for with STEEM.
Not only that, according to theycallmedan, anything on the site can be ordered and paid for with STEEM. This is a major breakthrough. This site sells things such as nutritional products, watches, and boots.

Here we see a single Steemian trying to make a big difference in our ecosystem. He put together a "rebate" program using his upvotes. This exemplifies the potential of the "upvote economy". According this his post, anything purchased off the site will garner a $5 upvote from him.
The details are contained in this post.

I love seeing advancements like this taking place. When I look at the different variables of blockchain, I feel one of the top features needs to be community. That is what is making Steem so powerful. In spite of all the issues, the community is rock solid.
One person or entity is not going to make a blockchain successful. It takes the participation of thousands of people in many different ways to help it grow. Mainstream adoption will only take place if all of us are involved.
It is fun to think about how things can become interconnected. I see the site offers Garmin products. Just the other day, in the S.O.S broadcast, @mcfarhat spoke about his discussion with Garmin and getting them to accept AFIT as payment for their products. He is also working on integrating them into the Actifit application. Perhaps at some point in time, AFIT will also be accepted by this site.
As always, the potential here is unlimited. We are only starting to see a smidgen of the possibilities that exist with this blockchain.
Together, we can make this place grow.
If you found this article informative, please give an upvote and resteem.
it takes just one to take the leap towards massive adoption @theycallmedan

It's like you have said many times in the past. This is the starting point not the end. It will take time to integrate the new system into the old ones but we can see it creeping in, slowly but surely.

I love the rebate idea! I have some questions about the product (I do fast, so I might be the target market!), and I will look into it.
I do worry a bit about being the 10000 bitcoin for 2 pizzas guy, but if that never happened we might not be here today!

Very good!
Have you seen @homesteaderscoop and https://homesteaderscoop.com where vendors around the world are selling their sustainable products for steem, SBD, and USD? It was built by @sagescrub and has vendors now in 8 countries I believe.
Very exciting to see folks adopting steem. Alternative economies are growing!
