HETEROCHROMIA

Heterochromia signifies "distinct (hetero-) colours (-chromia)." Normally the expression is used to refer to the state where a individual has different colored eyes just one blue eye and one green eye, for instance.

Other terms to describe different colored eyes are heterochromia iridis and heterochromia iridum. "Iridis" and "iridum" reference the iris of their eye. The iris is the slim, circular arrangement that encircles the pupil and contains the pigment melanin, which provides our eyes their distinguishing colour.
