Happy, Healthy Homey #1: Tea Time for the Tots

in busy •  7 years ago

As the mother of three little ones, I am ever concerned with effective and natural ways to take good care of my family.

We live an active and natural life. So we are typically of relatively robust health, and don’t get sick often. But occasionally we do fall under the weather. If we are in need of some health boosters, my go-to strategy is to add even more healing foods into our diets, and let nature nurture us back to health.

On this particular day, back in November when daddy @quinneaker was off at Steemfest, both @qiqi-power and @noki-power had gotten a bit of the flu. I am super fortunate to live at the @gardenofeden where we have a beautiful and bountiful herb garden. So we walked out to the garden to pick fresh, vibrant, beyond-organic herbs to brew up some healing tea.

The girls picked their own herbs, careful to leave the rest of the plant in tact. They carried them in their own little baskets.

Then they each placed the leaves into their own little lovely pots.

Qiqi is mindful of the camera.

Noki gets very into the process of things.

They did almost everything themselves, except I boiled and helped pour the hot water.

QiQi was so nauseated that she vomited while the tea was brewing! But her sweet sister @noki-power was right there to support her.

A few minutes later the tea was ready to pour and QiQi poured hers all by herself.

After drinking the tea, the girls felt much better!

Teas are great medicine for nausea and vomiting since they are so gentle, natural and work so fast. Box teas can work well too if you don't have the luxury of fresh herbs on hand.

On this day we made our tea of mint, lemon balm and oregano which both have amazing healing properties.

Lemon balm is actually a member of the mint family and great for many of the same things as mint. - soothing and calming in general, relaxing the digestive tract, reducing nausea, prompting sleep and increasing appetite. Read more about it on @gardenofeden ’s post on the Incredible Healing Properties of Lemon Balm

Oregano is a powerful antioxidant, and is also known for being antiviral, anti-fungal and antibacterial. It is loaded with polyphenols, flavonoids and antho-cyanins, which are all recognized for their antioxidant qualities. Read more about it on @truthproductions ’s post about The Healing Properties of Oregano.

Its so amazing that at 6 and 4 years of age that they are preparing their own medicine EVEN WHILE THEY ARE SICK!

How great to live in a place that grows its own medicine and provides so much opportunity for empowerment.
