Communities Enters a Steem-Wide Beta Testing Phase!

in busy •  5 years ago

Well, we have been talking about it for years. Literally and it seems as if it is going to happen. I am getting pretty excited about it! Communities are here on in a Beta form for testing, but I am still excited.

People can see the new UI and create communities while helping to test at https://beta.steemit.com/

  1. Create the Community from the Wallet (You will need to burn 3 Steem)
  2. Modify and customize it head back to beta.steemit.com

There is not a lot of help yet, which is great for checking on how intuitive the UI is.

Practice and play, but remember the site will post to the live site and rewards and auto-voters will react!

Personally I am really excited about Communities. For nearly four years we have been trying to figure out how to handle what is and isn't a quality post, if there should or shouldn't be any behavioral standards and what should get rewarded. With communities these things can be handled by selected and possibly like-minded moderators within each community! That is amazing. Imagine being able to define for your own community what is and isn't a Quality Post.

Since posts will still drop to SteemIt it will not stop the rewards disagreement battles, but when combined with SMTs it does allow for alternative rewards that can not be striped away by outside forces. (unless they wish to buy the SMT)

It is my opinion that at some point Steem will be viewed more as a utility or developers token) But no one knows for sure if that will happen and what it would look like. It sure will be nice though to have other ways to reward content. Mostly though allowing each community to create their own standards and enforce them is the biggest advantage.

By the way, I am going to post this via the #NewSteem community and how appropriate is that? Many used the #newsteem tag to justify downvoting, but NewSteem was always supposed to be about getting outside of our own community politics and promoting Steem. So, if you have or are already promoting Steem or would like to brainstorm about it, I invite you to join. https://beta.steemit.com/trending/hive-141498

Like you I have no idea what I am doing yet, so let's learn it together!

PS, I am not exit scamming with the Dudeior funds, I am waiting to hear from the judges! :)

I agree on the thought that Steem gets pulled further and further away from being a consensus token to allow small communities to drive their own interests. It makes perfect sense that Steem becomes the gas to make things run while you strive for approval from your own niche.

Yeah, it only makes sense. It's already trying to do too many things!

I'm feeling it!

This is the news we want to develop, it would be great the positive result of this project for all

It is my opinion that at some point Steem will be viewed more as a utility or developers token) But no one knows for sure if that will happen and what it would look like.

I think your right on this one. The way things are going for the past couple of years I see STEEM as a backing token for all the activity in the eco-system rather than what you earn from posting. With a few million users the STEEM amounts will be tiny anyway.

Great post. One quick question @whatsup

Can one post be part of few different communities? Or just one and only one?

And also if I subscribe then to some community and new publication will be posted, then how VISIBLE is this post on my feed? I mean - will I be at least notified?

Just wondering how real visibility will increase.

Yours
Piotr

Yes you can subscribe to many communities. With each post though, you have to select 1 to post to.

On the new UI you will have a place to see all the action in the communities you've subscribed to.

internal visibility will be increased by small collective forming and we still need to work on outside marketing plans

Dear @whatsup

Yes you can subscribe to many communities. With each post though, you have to select 1 to post to.

Thank you for your comment and I'm sorry for such a late reply.

From what I've learned users can chose only one community to which post will be "connected". That will make it really difficult for those who would participate in few communities and will have to chose to focus on posting to one of them.

ps.
May I ask you for little favour? I'm not sure if I did ask you about it already or not (hope I'm not repeating myself).

Could you please check out also my recent post if you have few min and share your thoughts on questions related to concept of "introducing steem blockchain to businesses":

Your feedback is always appreciated ;) And I will upvote most valuable comment with 100-200k SP coming from project.hope account.

I wrote my latest post from a community page and have now joined a few others I want to post from soon. There are a few minor issues and concerns, but I'm already liking what I see. I imagine in 1 year after forked release, we will see a lot of unique developments.

PS I cannot help but notice this wasn't written from the community page. Does whatsup need to find a community?

Haha, yeah, I blew that didn't I! I was wondering who would be the first to notice.

About to give one a go today, wasn't sure where the link was..., it kind of passed me by.. now I do.. thanks!

Enjoy, for early beta it is looking really good!
