Steem Getting Attention on Twitter - For Censorship

I really enjoy @bitcoindood on twitter and I also think he has a Steem Account, but I am not sure of his name.

He posted the CCN article regarding SteemIt.com removing the darklord hackers.

Of course many on twitter do not understand the difference between steemit.com and Steem the blockchain so there was a pretty big reaction.

Soon though some more knowledgeable people stepped in and clarified.

(yeah, it's me... lol)

Anyway the conversation rages on and the best part of it is the proof the blockchain is working and the data is still safely on the blockchain.

This is why we need to correct the minnows and those calling flags censorship. At worst it is suppression and those talking about it in that way are spreading misinformation.

I added this screen shot because it is funny...

Go weigh in on twitter it is great people are talking about this and we should keep the conversation going!!!

@whatsup,
I don't think adding censorship on STEEMIT (a social media) is a worst thing! yeah social medias need to have that policy not matter centralized of decentralized | APP or DAPP! It might be under such policies! Hat off for the work that you have done there!

Cheers~

Here is the reply for anyone who wants to use it on Twitter. Feel free to use it or use the photo wherever you want:

Steemit Inc is a private company in the United States subject to all it's laws and, unfortunately, extortion, pressures, and manipulation. This is different from the Steem blockchain and to use the two interchangeably is incorrect.

All pictures uploaded are not on the blockchain. Instead they are one Steemit's servers which is AWS. Again, they are subject to all rules, pressures, TOS, and infringement notifications.

The posts in question are on the blockchain. Erasing them from any one interface's server is not removing it from the blockchain. There is no way to censor the data on the Steem blockchain unless the super majority of the witnesses decided to undo it. This did not happen.

It is vital for people to understand the difference between a private company using traditional server space and the blockchain.

While it is a good reply that isn't going to work on Twitter. lol

Ah I guess you are right. I am not much of a tweetster.

Sorry to barge in like this guys but a screenshot of TM4450's message can work on Twitter. Maybe! :D

I tracked him down for you :)

@the-bitcoin-dood

Come back... Only one crazy person was giving you a hard time and she is crazy anyway.

That is actually the work of @checky

Why exactly did they "ban" him? Or at least remove him from being visible on Steemit. There are tons of hackers out there. I'm sure there are a few here that may have done something high profile. Should we ban them all? Or just the ones that did something against a government? Should we ban Snowden if he comes here? Or did they get someone from some organization filing some sort of paperwork?

Guess I'll try to look it up.

thanks for the info..

I am trying to get some burlesque people from the Toronto scene to come over so I'll have to tell them to keep their photos elsewhere and them link them here..

hmm, what's the going place for decentralized photo sharing?

I don't do photos often. Is SteepShot still a thing.

I rarely do photos too.. I've gotten lazy and just uploaded stuff I think is cool to Instagram.. but them some people I know have had their complete history deleted in a recent purge anything Instagram considered NSWF.. Seems the way everything is going after that FOSTA law went into effect..

We still hold our private keys and the memos on the blockchain are immutable.
Not a huge fan of censorship, but I am sure the policy police have their reasons. As long as they are more legal than political or moral, no serious qualms. Hopefully this can be a teaching moment and the whole thing gains Steem exposure.

Ehhh, depends what recovery account is used. But I imagine they changed the keys on first logon. I hope

I meant to write 'our' keys. I think changing them atleast once is good practice. I am not wise enough but maybe given time, someone can write more about advanced steps you can take to make your account impossible for even steemit to shut down.

You likely don't need to worry about it. Store your keys in a safe place and don't forget them. If you loose or forget your keys, just use the default @steem recovery process.

Way to go for stepping in @whatsup!

Wow, so sad that people can't research before spreading lies and criticism. Also, Steemit does have a very big influence on what can be shown, and people upload their images to Steemit a lot of the time and Busy uses Steemit image CDN for images uploaded elsewhere (steemitimages), so Busy is also susceptible to censorship from Steemit Inc, and also a few other condensers.

I think it's important to keep this decentralised and to keep creating tools to further our independence to the central Steemit platform. I'm not personally able to develop all of this but if there are projects, I want to start jumping in and collaborating in the coding of these platforms. One of them is SteemPeak, and I'm in contact with the developers. Maybe we should start promoting and helping in these environments.

Well that's just what we don't need. Hopefully it blows over and people will realize that the actual blockchain is more than just Steemit.

Yes, people still don't get the difference between STEEMIT and STEEM. They are related, but not one and the same.

I think it is GREAT... All news is good news and it gives us a chance to get in the conversation and clear up the bad info.

I hadn't thought of it that way, but that's definitely true.

Us? #metoo ?

He's the guy who brought me to Steem! He's done a post here about it. The article he links to does a pretty good job of making it clear that this is not really censorship. Steemit have to protect themselves. It's interesting that only 6 accounts have been blocked like this

I joined in the discussion too.

Unfortunately, there are still many misinformed people out there who thinks Steemit.com is synonymous with Steem blockchain. It's up to the informed to educate the misinformed. Thanks for sharing this!

Way to step up! 😀

Haha. Yeah. Guess we picked up on this at around the same time.... Im more middle ground on this though i can understand the backlash.

This post has been included in the latest edition of SOS Daily News - a digest of all you need to know about the State of Steem.

Should there not be some sort of a news conference to explain to the world what has happened? @ned ?

Pssh. We don't need him to represent us. He's just not that into this whole thing. Twas just a faucet. He is going to attract bigger and better ideas. ;)

I think he is, and he is using distraction to jump over all competition. If it is what it seems to me, then #chappeau to keep quiet and play fool... Imagine SMT's with a partnership with these guys to provide liquidity services for steem and smt's, I know them, these are top notch!!!

I think he will surprise not only the steem community but also the whole crypto world.

I think he is doing the right moves, I am waiting for it for months now.

Algorithmic digital asset trading... the market maker/taker footprint in the SMT whitepaper. But also for steem/sbd on all these different external markets.

https://www.gsr.io/our-services/market-making/

I dont get it , was post on steemit just flagged or its actually deleted? just interesting i thought at max people can just flag, because evena author cant delete his own post

This is different. Steemit, Inc. Has decided not the show the posts at all on Steemit.com

The posts however remain in the blockchain.

Incredible how many still associate Steemit being Steem and this is a great opportunity to demonstrate otherwise!

You would really think crypto people wouldn't have such a hard time understanding the difference between the blockchain and a front end interface, but it seems to consistently go over their heads. It seems like to them a blockchain can only hold esoteric data like transfers, transactions inputs and outputs, things like basic text on a blockchain is too much to handle.

Gotta start following the steem hashtags and engaging on Twitter. Need to educate others and gain converts!

Since @thedarkoverlord stopped posting... do they even know themselves that this is the case? :’)

Posted using Partiko iOS

Of-course they stopped posting... this place is too HOT for them, with me on tha blockchain. :)

Flagging is a form of censorship.

how do you define censorship?

Censorship is the suppression of speech.

suppression of speech ok...how does flag STOP someone from saying EXACTLY what he wants and NEVER BE DELETED from the Blockchain?

Suppression by dentition (when speaking about dissemination of information) means STOPPING SOMEONE FROM PUBLISHING – that is virtually impossible on the Steem Blockchain (and most of the others too)

Therefore flagging is not a form of censorship if you want to stand by your definition of it...or you wanna change your definition of censorship?

Flagging can hide people's posts and prevent accounts from having any of their future posts been visible, therefore censorship.

No, it isn't. It just removes rewards. Most of the front ends still display it.
