Your Voice Is Worth Something

in busy •  6 years ago

No one said it was worth a lot. :)

When I see people complaining about Steem rewards they often point at the SteemIt Marketing Slogan. "Your Voice is Worth Something".

I am not a huge fan of the line either, Frankly, I think it is a pretty dull tagline. I like: Join the Discussion.

However, I think most people here do earn "something" when they post. Not all, but most.

Even if we added Advertising to the site, there are very few posts here that get enough traffic to earn anything on a monetizing program like Adsense.

It's a strange economy we are creating because the inflated value of your "voice" is created by speculation on the Steem token.

Yet the speculation that Steem will hold value is mostly based on the idea that paid content creators will at some point thrive and bring other content creators, who require curators, who will bring investors, who will increase the price of rewards. It's a circle really.

Yet, we tend to see this from our own point of view

Developers: I built the site, nuff said.
Investors: I fund the rewards
Content Creators: If it wasn't for me there wouldn't be anything to upvote.
Curators: There is no point in writing that shit if no one sees it.
Bernie: Shut up or I will flag you

I don't know why I threw Bernie in there, I guess he is kind of his own thing.

We need all of the roles, none of them stand alone.

We do need to retain a few of all of them for the sites to be built and maintained, we need people to write, sing, blog, review, post opinions, vlog, play games,... We need people to read and curate all of those activities and yes, a paid content site needs investors.

What is your role?

Why is it the most valuable role if you think it is...

Let's discuss it in the comment section

@whatsup,
I still don't know what's the role that I have here! Anyway, whatever the role that I have now is better than my role at FB or any other social media!

Cheers~

My Role

  1. Content Creator
  2. Opinion Commentary
  3. Commenting and Curation ( Manuel which is a HUGE undertaking if done extensively like I do)
  4. Investor ( Monetarily and 'Sweat and Blood' - wise)

lol! ;-)))
Bernie: Shut up or I will flag you

Actually the biggest reward I got so far is by steemmonsters and the discussion with you and Alex..
everything else feels like writing for the trash can... ;-(

I was talking with a friend about, trying to create content that appeals to this crowd and what a challenge it can be.

Lot's of people mention not writing about Steem, but anytime I try to move away from the topic, my posts don't do well at all. :)

yes.. but as the platform is still in an infant status it might be worthwhile writing about it..
I plan to write several pieces about the steemit ecosystem this weekend..
about many things that should be amended IMHO

Well, I'll look forward to reading them.

I got a chuckle from the bernie part lol

metoo!

Steem needs to keep on testing different solutions. Eventually it will evolve (at least according to Darwin).

This made me smile, as you often do! lol

Yes, Perhaps it is valuable but to who? Did a user think that 1 post was enough?

But the truth is that if they keep trying to fix holes in the boat with potato chips we will have no other option than to abandon ship in search of better social models.

I think there should be an earning maximum. That way it limits the portions given at interval.

Yeah - I think each account should be limited to $500 a week because the $500 a day greedy buggers get a bit out of hand

Hmm I think in my past life I was a master commenter because I loved saying something clever and seeing the author react with “oh you actually read it” or something along that line

I wonder how many curators actually take their time and enjoy the process

I really value commenters!!

LOL - the biggest payout I've ever had on Steemit was from Bernie :)

I've had a couple of nice Bernie votes also, I just mean that he kind of does a bit of all of it, plus provides some entertainment to boot!

People complain about the lack of rewards all the time (I know you're not complaining here). But maybe people just need to get creative as to how they earn their rewards?

There are so many options for earning Steem. It's not only about voting on stuff or writing stuff. I do both of those things. But I also have other methods of earning here.

One is to sell a portion of my voting power on Minnowbooster. And then using those earnings to upvote my posts. I earn by selling my votes, and then earn further profit on those earnings via the paid vote from Minnowbooster.

It's a strategy that has worked for me for a long time. I've tested other services such as Smartsteem but have recently returned to Minnowbooster since it works so much better.

That's just one extra way to earn Steem. There are many. So it's not just about using your "voice". It's about being smart and working out how to best make use of your time.

I'm working away a lot at the moment so don't have a lot of time to create content. So selling my votes makes perfect sense. Then, when I have time to write, I can use my vote earnings to upvote my content as a way to extract my vote selling earnings from the Minnowbooster account.

My role is to be the village idiot. It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

Oh man... I wanted that job! (Most days I think I play that role too)

How about innocent bystander?

lol, nods

I guess primarily I'm posting a lot of my own content, so I'm primarily a creator, but I enjoy curating too. I also have a tiny stake, so I'm also a tiny bit investor , as we all are I suppose. I don't think any one of these roles is more important than the other. They're all like the organs of the body, you might THINK one is more important than the other, but you're equally dead without them all.

I must be thick skinned or just Mr Positive because I am still having fun and haven't noticed the doom and gloom.

I hear you, I go through phases... Sometimes it seems like it surrounds everything and other times all is well! :)

I am a future prospector, mining the present for rewards of the future.

Can I take you back to when steem was worth 6 cents and posts were 20 comments deep on the regular, and ask you how fast you'd trade the mood right now with the mood back then? Does that answer: why I tink my role is the most important?

I was here then, and I think it was more fun back then. The mood is about the same. The difference is there are now faster blockchains with more money and people ready to invest.

Oh definitely it was more fun then, loads more fun!!! People used to put in effort more though...now not so much.

I know with myself it's true I was putting in more effort two years ago (on my @sift666 account) - but that isn't actually because of moody Steemit or low crypto values, or Hardfork 20 - it's me being physically tired from some health issues, and also some Steemit burn out - I'm working on that too - after two years most people I know on Steemit have burned out a bit - @whatsup is a freak :)

No, I'm burnt out too! I fully admit it. I'm a broken record that refuses to stop playing.

I think all roles should be treated equally. No one could exist without the other.

I came as a consumer and a creator. I want to create and just write about topics I find interesting. I want to build an online community. Engage with cool people.
I also want to consume dope content. I guess 50% creating and 50% consuming :)

I came in as an investor but have now seen it for its ability to create communities with content to curate and create. I read all the discussions but I can’t see why to press the panic button... I am just enjoying the journey for now!

Agreed.
