Harvest of pineapple fruit is done after the pineapple aged 12-24 months, depending on the type of seed used. Seedlings from the crown of flowers bear fruit at the age of 24 months, until fruit harvest after the age of 24 months. Plants derived from stem shoots are harvested after 18 months of age, while root buds after 12 months of age. Characteristics of pineapple fruit ready to be harvested:

a) The fruit crown is open.

c) Fruit eyes more horizontal, large and rounded shape.

d) The color of the base of the yellow fruit.

e) The aroma of pineapple is aromatic and distinctive.

2). How to Harvest

Procedure of harvesting pineapple fruit: picking pineapple fruit that shows signs of ready-to-harvest. The base of the fruit stalk is cut horizontally with a sharp knife and sterile. Harvesting is done carefully so as not to damage and bruises.

3). Harvest Period

Pineapple plants harvested after the age of 12-24 months. Harvesting of pineapple fruit is done gradually until three times. The first harvest is about 25%, second 50%, and third 25% of the amount. Plants that are 4-5 years old need to be rejuvenated because of slow growth and small fruit. How to rejuvenate is to disassemble the entire pineapple plant to be replaced with new seeds. Potential production per hectare in intensive cultivated pineapple plants can reach 38-75 tons / hectare. In general, an average of 20 tons / hectare, depending on the type

pineapple and planting system.

  1. Packaging and Transportation

Packing activity begins by removing pineapple from the curing cabinet, then selected (sorting) based on the level of damage to uniform. Then the pineapple fruit wrapped with wrapping paper and then packed in bamboo baskets or wooden crates or corrugated cardboard boxes. Size of packaging container is 60 x 30 x 30 cm which is given ventilation hole. The transport process begins by inserting the container regularly on the carrier, the pineapple fruit is transported and marketed to the marketing venue.
