I have been using Byteball since almost a year now. It is a very interesting project that stands out from other crypto projects by a few points:
- DAG: Instead of a Blockchain Byteball uses a DAG, where individual transactions are signed to proceeding transactions. This has advantages and disadvantages. It allows (almost) free and instant microtransactions that reach security very quickly. But this comes at the price of breaking the strict order in a blockchain. It is no longer trivial to establish an order of payements and various implementations user other methods to define a unique history.
Anonymous payments: Byteball has white and black (anonymous) bytes. The user can without much effort choose the required level of privacy
Simple programmable money: Byteball makes it simple to send conditional payments without having to be a blockchain developer.
Almost all bytes are airdropped completely for free: The philosophy is that a currency obtains value by usage. To gain usage byteball wants to realise a very broad distribution giving as many people as possible some bytes. This is also the reason they are no giving bytes for free to steem users.
Making crypto simple: Byetball allows sending others bytes per address, but also as a "textcoin" to any ordinary email address. Now bytes can also be send to steem usernames. This has the advantage that you can pay someone in bytes even when they are not in crypto yet. They get a link and after installing a wallet they will have their bytes
All in all I think that the team behind byteball is having a solid approach to develop a simple to use, everyday currency. And now you can try it for free. If you do not have a byteball account yet, I recommend to download a wallet and claim your steem airdrop of up to 160$ (depending on your steem reputation) in bytes.
If you do that you may as well use my referral link giving me some extra bytes as well: help me please :)
That will take you to wallet download, from there you go to the chat icon and use the steem attestation bot. That bot will verify your steem account and within second you should have you bytes.
There is only one little problem: Doing the verification costs a small transaction fee and your wallet will be empty. But when you post your wallet address in the comments I will happily send you enough bytes to cover the fees.
I like this idea, but I encounter a bunch of problems... At first the airdrop failed because my wallet wasn't 'single address'; and when doing it over the bot stopped reacting. And the word on Steemit is that the bot is unresponsive for everyone, which makes a bad first impression

it was not responding after the first hours, but should be back now
you should clear the chat and then go to the tab contacts on the top of the chat interface. There you can delete the bot.
After doing that you can add the bot again and it should work now

I just got the application and it's asking for 49000 bytes. Someone actually told me he got his own bytes for free! Did you get yours free?
Here's my wallet address

I'll appreciate the fees to claim my rewards.

no you have to pay the fees. But afterwards the reward is much bigger than the fees so it does not matter. Its only slightly inconvenient. Hve send you some bytes.
