Another one Bytes the dust!!!!!

PicsArt_07-20-05.39.55.png

So after a couple days of complete madness Byteball is cracking down on people trying to game the system in order to get more tokens. Now we should have known this was gonna happen the moment they announced the airdrop was based on Reputation.

Some people have earned quite a lot of money creating accounts for 3 Steem and paying for upvotes to push the rep up to 40. Not only that but they are getting double by referring themselves over and over with each new account created.

Byteball has announced that any account created after July 12, 2018 will not be eligible to claim the airdrop BUT they will still be able to refer other users to attest their Steem name. They have also chopped some of the airdrop rewards in half. So accounts that fall in the 30-40 and 40-50 bracket will receive half the reward. So $5 for 30 and up and 10 for 40 and up. Now paying for upvotes to boost your rep isn't going to be profitable at least not like it was.

It's a sad reality that people abuse the system but it's exactly what I just said REALITY. In life people try to get over in just about every industry you can think of. Someone somewhere is trying to game the system. So it's no surprise people have gone absolutely nuts over this thing. Honestly I think the Byteball people were probably just a little too excited and maybe jumped the gun. Honestly I feel like the Attestation fee should have been paid in Steem or SBD directly from the steem wallet to prove ownership of account. There are many Steemers who have their private keys floating around so this is just another way for people to exploit this airdrop.

If money can be made better believe the scammers are coming!!!!!

When I first heard of this airdrop and the referral rewards I though this was a pretty cool way to earn some extra money. I send Byteball to a user to help with their fee and they receive the airdrop and I receive a reward. Boy was I naive. Every time I checked an address left in my comment section it was sniped instantly!!!!! So not only are they farming accounts, paying for upvotes to boost rep but also stealing referrals!!!!

People started to really notice this and changed the format and asked that people send the wallet addresses in private. There have only been 25,000 users who have claimed the airdrop so there is still some money to be made made. I am sure the changes implemented by Byteball will not stop all the spamming and theft but it's a great start!!!!

If you haven't claimed your Byteball Airdrop follow these steps

lol. Its a wise decision to slam down those spammers. But i m a bit sad for new users who are struggling in steemit, cutting their rewards in half is harsh from their point of view.

I just want to ask a question. Since I've already posted my byteball address on the comment section of the person that referred me, is my byteball wallet still safe? Can a participant's byteball wallet be accessed using just the address alone?

Of course not!!! If that was possible Blockchain would have died in 2009

Thanks. I thought the account could be accessed through address

You should keep your seed words safe and back them up somewhere (it's like owner key for Steem), if you have done the attestation then you should do the full backup too.

Seed words are the private key to your wallet (so don't share those). Byteball addresses are public (it's like your username on Steem) and can be only used to send you the funds and look up how much you have (just like on Steem).

If you did the attestation also publicly then people can also send you Bytes using steem/resuscitate address and they can also see how much Bytes you have (just like on Steem). If you did the private attestation then they can only see that you have done the attestation using your public Byteball address, but they don't know, which Steem user. But they could scan Steem blockchain to look who have posted that in Steem comments.

If you want to change from private attestation to public attestation then you can do that by doing the attestation again (no reward on second time), but you can't change from public to private.

Thanks for the useful information. Please do you have any idea of how the byteball bonus can be transferred to steemit wallet?

  • Bittrex has GBYTE/BTC and STEEM/BTC pairs
  • UPbit has GBYTE/BTC, STEEM/BTC and SBD/BTC pairs

I referred 4 people and never got the fee for it, the sniping explains what happened with that. Unfortunately, this will put the brakes on Byteball. The cancellation of airdrops will slow interest in the platform.

I wonder how this will affect me and other legit users I referred who created their accounts after that date? They may be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Things got harder for the scammers and the honest people too. At least they'll get the scammers. Easy come, easy go.

the greedy bastard has all loose...lol

Apart from stealing referals from people, some are out there claiming to be in need of attestation fee for verification whereas they just want to steal from you. Isn't it obvious how people will step so low for a small token of 49,000bytes?

I started checking their comments at their channel and caught two guys trying to do that. They were getting bytes from multiple people. I denied them. They say some bot was stealing the referrals as well. I would refer somebody from my post, send them 50,000 bytes. They would attest and I would see the reward pending at the top of the Byteball app for a bit and then SWISH! it was gone. Nothing came to me. I sent in a trouble ticket, but with this latest news, there's no use promoting Byteball.

Slap on scammers now. Very good decision taken by the community. They have to make genuine terms n conditions in future.

Byteball team's idea to airdrop to steemians was great, but poorly executed unfortunately.

Yeah I'm guessing they just got a little excited and didn't think things all the way through.

They said already in original post that: "All rewards are paid in Bytes and may be subject to changes particularly for the lower reputation scores.".

Lol so true bro, spammers are going to spam! This is crypto and there is no shortage of people who will take a shortcut to get some FIM (free internet money) I claimed my shiteballs out of FOMO aint going to lie about it lol

I see @berniesanders also distanced himself from the project once the spam shit show began. Interesting times, lol it just shows if you going to drop a hype train on steemit, best be prepared for steemains to take apart your project

Yeah the spammers make it unattractive but these people have a good coin and they have been around for a while plus the wallet looks pretty cool!!!

i hope you help me to reach reputation 30 by votes
this is my address to send the fee

thanks

yeah forreal the referrals I was doing were getting picked off left and right ahhaha probably referred at least a handful of people and never got the reward... oh, well, I got my free money and then some, so I guess I can't complain.

Appreciate the post, I didn't really realize how the referrals were being sniped like this, but really all makes sense haha wherever there is money there are thieves

Best,

@conradsuperb

That explains why a friend increased the amount of money to collect the reward, had read some things about it but this makes it more clear! Thanks for the information
