Merfolk Brawl Deck! Magic: The Gathering (Decklist Included)

I call this one, “Mermaids.”

I am trying to get @mad.dawg to play more #mtg with me lately, and she really likes using my Merfolk decks. I had a couple pre-built Merfolk decks laying around and I had a ton of Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan cards, so I combined all of it!

Now, this deck can be used in “Brawl” format, as well as “Modern.” Exhaustion is the oldest card in the deck, and it is “Modern” legal. Decklist is at the bottom of the post.

You will find that this deck has quite a few unblockable cards as well as some crazy green pump cards (for those crazy 8/8 unblockable turns). There is another mechanic that I am experimenting with, which is “Islandwalk.” There are a couple cards that make target lands Islands. I can’t wait to give this deck a try against @treigh-c, @kommienezuspadt, @vermillionfox, and @tarotbyfergus!

Kiora, Master of the Depths

To start off this breakdown, here is the commander (when this deck is being used for Brawl). My other commander decks have a problem with the commander being a high mana cost. Kiora is only four mana which means early playing ability. +1 ability can be useful with unblockable creatures because you want to attack with them every turn, but do not want to stay wide open to attack. I have yet to be able to use the -8 ability, but when that day comes, I am going to video it.

Nissa, Steward of Elements

This is one of the first Planeswalkers that I drew out of a pack and it fit the mana colors, I had to add it in. In my opinion, this is a great utility planeswalker. +2 ability is Scry 2, that works awesome with this deck. The 0 ability can be used pretty well if you cast Nissa with enough loyalty counters on it. In theory, this card will help the deck play better

Exhaustion

Knowing who I play against, Exhaustion is needed in this deck. It is an older card, but feels pretty broken. Played at the right time, it could be the difference between losing and winning a game.

Misdirection

I haven’t added this card to a deck before, and I am sorry I haven’t! Good luck taking control of my things!

Extra turn for five mana? All day every day.

Master of the Pearl Trident

This is one of the cards that plays into the Islandwalk mechanic. If your opponent controls and Island or if you have made one of their lands an Island already, EVERYTHING IS UNBLOCKABLE. Throw a Might of Oaks in there and you are talking some massive hurt.
