spring fling and camera phooey

in cameras •  6 years ago

so another lil photo shoot yesterday... shit post grumble warning

greenery hidden under the refuse of autumns detritus has been popping up under the warmth of the past few days. I'll be quite happy if spring comes early this year

i got a couple of neat pics, but i am quite sad and a lot frustrated. i noticed that my camera has not been focusing correctly and thought it was due to a dirty lens

i do try to make everything into macro with a normal lens. turns out that my camera - just isn't focusing correctly. it does ok on the far shots, but on the closer ones i can hear the little motor whirring in and out trying to get a proper fix.

if anyone has experience with this issue gimme a holler cause i cant afford too much money to fix a faulty motor, if that's what it is. hopefully all it needs is a cleaning, otherwise im looking at paying for a new camera. or writing a gofundme proposal... riiiight.

if so im gonna get a Canon, as I am not all that happy with my Nikon after a scant 3-4 years of usage. even my five year old i phone takes better photos. the lack of zoom function kills it however.

over the next week ill put out some other topical posts to spread them out since snow and 17 degrees will happen for the next few days and i plan on hibernation.

You did get some good pictures there! That lake is looking really nice with some melting. It's going to be some time in April before we see any open water on the lakes up here.
As for the camera, I have a Nikon Coolpix L19, and it has always done what you were talking about with the close focus, with the motor moving the focus back and fourth. When you push the shutter button half way down, the focus sets it's self, but not always on what you want to take a picture of. This camera has a macro function, but it won't focus at any closer than about a foot and a half. If you're about 2 feet away from the object, it might focus on it and it might focus on something else close to what you're trying to take a picture of, especially if it's a small object like an insect. This camera is just not that good for closeup photos.

it's a bit more than that, i don;t get the focus points to light up anymore. usually i get 11-20 focus points. now im lucky if i get 3-5. and even when i set the point at half shutter, if i move it, the focus points reset. its something fairly recent so i can only imagine either the motor or some light sensor is at fault.
