Unfortunate or a Miracle
Life has handed me a Minivan and I have yet to find a permanent home. Most people when they here this immediately say something they consider reassuring like "We'll get you into a place soon". The funny thing nobody realizes is that I am actually starting to enjoy it! There a no roommates hassling me, no rent to pay (other than gas and insurance), and because I am on wheels, I am aways on the go. From 5am when I wake up to 11pm when I go to sleep I am on the go.
Since I was young I have always been a rambling soul. My mother raised me in a constant transitional state while we renovated foreclosure after foreclosure. Sometime we would be living out of a mobile home until a home had its plumbing on and the animal feces sealed and re-floored. We never stayed in the same town after the home was complete and sold, we would always jump to where the grass was greener and keep on keeping on.
This trait became past down to me, and ever since I left school I have moved locations more times than I can count. I have always quick to find a new job, a new career, new friend and community. This has led me in and out of the dark-side of existence more often than I like to admit.
Its enjoyable to think that after everything, I am humbly living out of my van in cooking on my single burner MSR pocket rocket. This little stove has gotten me through tons of camping, and daily car camping use with no problem at all! Little thing fits in a very small container and screw right into the top of an MSR fuel canister for a very light weight, fast and temperature controlled cooking experience.
Soon though, I will be upgrading!! For a long time I had heard about Jetboil's canister cooking solution. Whats special about the canister stoves is that they can boil water in a couple minutes. They are designed to get optimal heat transfer into the canister for almost instant hot water. There are innumerable uses for this stove when you are out in the wilderness. My sister, who is a wilderness EMT told me that once her team kept themselves and their rescue warm and alive by filling their water bottles with hot water and sticking them inside their clothing for 6 hours until the helicopter arrived and they could transport the patient. Ever since she told me that story I have wanted one. Well, since usually use MSR because I find them to be a very good company recently I discovered that MSR came out with its own canister stove that is wind resistant. MSR uses metal coil technology to make for an even quicker boil and much safer cooking. The MSR Windburner Stove is my dream right now. Its a durable, reliable, easy way to cook on the go!
I never imagined my life could get this compact and simple. Right now I have more than I need to survive in my van, More than enough cloths, blankets, a sleep pad, and my laptop. It feels so good to have so little and feel so full! Even if you love you home and have no intention of living on the road, simplicity is rule to live by. Tomorrow I can pack up everything I own and drive to the coast, stay there for a few weeks or just move there entirely without worrying about a thing. To me living on the edge is worth it to taste that sort of freedom!
Thank you,
