It is a challenge to leave your comfort zone and step into the unknown. Camp in wilderness, hike in the mountains, sweat, overcome a pain and develop your creativity by learning survival skills with limited resources. That’s how is our Kirirom camping tour like.
The rainy season adds up another major challenge. Unpredictable weather. How to benefit from rain? First-ever we set up a plastic tarp above a kitchen and common area at our campsite. The inclined tarp funnels rain water into our buckets. This simple hack is a great source of service water for washing vegetables, cooking and etc.
During meal preparation, our participants divide themselves in the teams. The teams responsibilities vary from making a bonfire, boiling water and cooking to searching for a firewood. At night, we grill corns, bananas and potatoes sitting around the campfire, sharing stories and learning from each other. We are all set up and prepared for a heavy rain to come. For some it might be depressing to camp in a rain unable to see bright night sky. But we choose to see it from a positive side. Seek the good in everything our mentor once said.
We are grateful for the relaxing sound of rain drops, freshness, green scenery, fluffy clouds and a mist laying on the mountains. It is up to us to which side we choose. It is not about the weather. It is about our mind.
