WHAT?
Loblaw is offering $25 gift cards as a "good-will gesture" to apologize for wrong-doing.
WHAT WRONG-DOING?
(skip this if all you care about is the money)Loblaws was part of an industry-wide price-fixing scandal involving bread prices.
5 major grocers and 2 bakeries were involved (including Loblaw Companies Ltd., Walmart Canada Corp., Sobeys Inc., Metro Inc. and Giant Tiger Stores Ltd.
They are alleged to have artificially raised the price of bread by $1.50 since 2001.
Loblaw claims to have informed the Canadian Competition Bureau as soon as they learned of their part in the scandal.
For admitting wrong-doing, Loblaw will receive immunity from prosecution.
WHAT'S THE CATCH?
The gift card can only be used to make purchase from Loblaw stores.
If any class-action lawsuit is successful in upcoming years, you will be paid $25 less if you decide to take a gift card now.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
If you are over 18 in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Québec, or Saskatchewan
OR
If you are over 19 in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, or Yukon.
AND (for the second part, note that you do not need to provide proof if for example you lost your receipt)
