For today's weed news we go to the construction industry.
As the planet slowly begins to come to their senses regarding one of the world's most useful plants, money is being made from cannabis in countless ways.
Now it's beginning to look like the time has come for the construction industry to get on board.
Some innovators in the construction space, like Greeff Christie's International Real Estate for example are very optimistic about the use of hemp and construction.
Greeff Christie's CEO was recently quoted as saying that "Hemp is a revolutionary product and with its versatility, cost-effectiveness and low environmental impact, it has the potential to change the way we look at home construction. Hemp may very well become the material of choice for the discerning home builder or developer."
Here's a list of some innovative applications where hemp can be used in construction and in many instances, it seems to actually be superior to traditional materials:
Hempcrete - a concrete-like material made of hemp, lime and water that is not only 100% recyclable but also fire and waterproof. It can also be used for fertilizer once it is no longer needed as of a building material.
Henp Insulation - can be used in both commercial as well as industrial situations. It can resist mold as and most other types of moisture-related rotting problems that usually develop due to excessive humidity since the cellulose-rich hemp stock fibers are able to get wet and dry out an almost infinite amount of times without compromising the material.
Interiors - because hemp does not produce allergic reactions in people and due to its antibacterial properties, it is a perfect solution for people who have respiratory problems or are allergic to chemical interior finishes.
And if that wasn't enough amazing uses of hemp (besides medicines and relaxing the mind, hemp also very environmentally friendly. A wall made of hempcrete can even absorbing lockaway carbon from the air!
When building homes using hemp, there is no need for formaldehydes glues or sealants which are commonly used to hold together parts of the construction. On top of that, since hemp does not catch fire like traditional wood and instead kindles slowly, it has superior fire retardant properties to traditional construction materials as well.
I personally love the idea of having a home built of hemp-fiber-based hempcrete. What better way to be eco-friendly then to build your house I weed.
I feel like somebody's going to have to update the story of The Three Little Pigs to the 4 Little Pigs and have the 4th one live in a house built of hempcrete :-).
