I Planted this seedling about 10 years ago. It cost me $11 from Walmart .... now look at it . It also provides Maple sap to make a litre of maple syrup in the spring. Best $11 I ever spent.

Could've grown from maple key for free. But it would be two years smaller than current size in that case

That is true.. but I had no Autumn Blaze keys .... I suppose I could have just gathered keys from a tree at the park

awesome! I am not in Canada anymore, but in Alberta, I don't think they would have grown.

It is a hybrid of red and silver maple that is very hardy .... almost nothing can kill them

to bad I didn't know it then - I would have grown one also. Had a mountain ash that took over the yard - my backyard looked like a jungle! A hiding place for mule deer!

Nothing says Canada better! Not sure why that is... lol. How many liters of sap does it take to make a liter of syrup? I guess it would depend on how thick you like your syrup... But roughly? I have a mature maple in my yard, but I don't think it is a sugar maple. I think I could use it anyway. Do you buy your taps or do you make your own?

you can make your own taps from bamboo, sumac or a wood dowel. I made mine from the branches of a sumac tree. from 40 litres of sap you get one litre....

Q. How much maple sap does it take to make a gallon of Maple Syrup?
A. The amount of sap required to make a gallon of Maple Syrup depends on the sap's sugar content. If sap is 1% sugar it will take 86 gallons to make one gallon of Maple Syrup. At 2% sugar it will take 43 gallons to make one gallon of Maple Syrup. At Cloverdale Sugarhouse our Sugarbush tends to yield sap that is somewhere between 1% and 2% sugar. So we must process about 50 gallons of maple sap to produce one gallon of Maple Syrup. In a single day we can collect up to 12,000 gallons of maple sap!.........
