To all my Canadian friends, I wish you a happy Canada Day. To all my other friends, so you feel included, I simply wish you a happy day as well.

I must confess to not knowing a lot about Canadian history nor what special events led to marking today, July 1, as Canada Day. A quick visit to Wikipedia explains that on July 1 in 1867 was the day on which an act, titled the Constitution Act was signed to join together three colonies: Canada, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick into a single entity (Dominion) of the British Empire. So, I am leaping to an assumption that this was when the geographic boundaries of what we know now as Canada was formed, even though there was already a colony named Canada. Of the three colonies, I wonder why they chose the name Canada?

Further googling and wikipedia’ng on the subject, I found out that the day in which Canada finally, formally removed British Parliament involvement in Canada was on March 8, 1982. I guess celebrating Canada Day in the winter, especially in Canada, would not be as nice as on a summer day in July.

Anyway, now off to celebrate this day by putting on some Neil Young, some Rush, and maybe watching some Wayne Gretzgy clips on youtube:

Happy Canada Day, Happy Day to all !

Love this quote from Gretzgy ... "You miss 100% of the shots you never take".
